“It’s lovely that the Opera House is kicking off the new year with the opening of The Harbour restaurant – a brand new pop-up venue that offers a unique summer destination for locals and visitors alike.”

Opening on Wednesday, 4 January, for four weeks only, the Opera House is transporting visitors back to the retro 80s as it recreates the original seafood restaurant that operated in the exact location from the late 80s to the early 90s.

While enjoying the harbour views, visitors can tuck into seafood a-plenty with a menu by Executive Chef Lee Thompson featuring fish burgers, seafood platters and grilled prawns.

The Opera House precinct is a buzzing location over the summer, and we’re excited to introduce a new pop-up experience as part of our 50th anniversary program. “Along with our summer performances and renowned harbourside dining venues, Portside, Opera Bar, House Canteen and Bennelong, the Opera House is a must-visit summer destination for locals, visitors, theatre-goers and families,” said Sydney Opera House Chief Customer Officer Jade McKellar.

“The space has been created for both the young and the young at heart to celebrate the history of what the space once was and allow visitors to create new memories with loved ones that will last the test of time,” said Trippas White Group General Manager David Madden. The Harbour is a vibrant new eatery that brings together classic fish and chip fare with the striking harbour views of its northern waterfront location.

The new pop-up will pay homage to the original eatery with checkered tablecloths, picnic tables and historical projections of the original restaurant. “With a range of world-class performances and experiences this summer, I hope as many people as possible can visit the Opera House and enjoy what our city has to offer,” said Minister for the Arts Ben Franklin MLC.

The pop-up will run for four weeks, from 4 January – 3 February, operating Tuesday to Saturday from midday to 8 pm. A picnic-ready takeaway menu is perfect for harbourside alfresco dining or in neighbouring gardens.

We are very excited to work with the Sydney Opera House to bring classic nostalgia to the precinct. Executive Chef Lee Thompson from Trippas White Group will design a dine-in and takeaway menu.
