The Gantry restaurant officially re-opened its doors on 17th November with an elevated new design, that aims to celebrate the Australian landscape and capture the essence of the Australian lifestyle. After five-months of essential heritage restorations and renovation, The Gantry now offers a beautiful new aethestic to compliment its contemporary dining, and hero the restaurant’s iconic harbourfront views.
Inside Pier One Sydney Harbour’s 1912 heritage wharf building, the design update made careful treatment of the restaurant’s heritage features, such as paired back pillars and original floor boards. The refreshed interiors are inspired by the landscape’s earthy, subdued colours, complimented by key pieces from Australian designers that pay tribute to the ocean and the restaurant’s iconic location. The goal is to offer a comfortable and relaxed, yet sophisticated dining room which allows the food and the views to be the hero of the experience.
Upon arrival, diners are welcomed by a ‘Ceto’ vertical chandelier, designed by Australian lighting design Ross Gardam. This unique piece captures the variation and rippling effect of the ocean’s surface, connecting the restaurant with its Sydney Harbour backdrop.
A new Chef’s Bar caps the dining room, where diners will be able to start their journey, and enjoy the energy of the working chefs, all framed by Melbourne designer Christopher Boots’ ‘Abacus Chandelier’. The culinary experience is also enhanced by a new kitchen pass, allowing diners to peek inside the kitchen.
Those looking for group dining will delight in the semi-private dining area where guests can dine together with a layer of privacy behind soft drapes, or reserve The Terrace for a real outdoor waterside feeling with the added comfort of full weather protection.
In a nod to sustainability, the restaurant’s dining tables have been refinished and repurposed, while the old tables with a bronze patina have found a new outdoor home on The Gantry’s dining terrace.
The Gantry’s redesign is set to provide a uniquely Australian dining experience, where diners can relax in effortless style whilst discovering the best examples of local produce, against the beautiful backdrop of The Gantry’s unrivalled setting, where the sea meets the land.
