Regional communities across Australia are expected to see one of the busiest holiday periods on record with Australians choosing to stay closer to home for their summer holidays.
Data released by the NRMA highlighted that despite recent rainfall, bookings across NRMA Holiday Parks and Resorts during the peak Christmas to New Year period were up by 25 per cent on last year.
NRMA Parks & Resorts CEO Paul Davies said the eagerness of Australians to get away this Christmas holiday period was great news for regional communities reliant on domestic tourism to generate local jobs and boost the local economy.
“After two years of closed international boarders returning back to normal Australians are still looking to travel closer to home for their summer holidays and support still recovering regional economies,” Mr Davies said.
“We are seeing the greatest increase in bookings in Queensland with an increase of more than 40 per cent on the same time last year. Guests are clearly eager for warmer weather and to visit destinations they may not have been able to cross the border for last year.”
“If families are looking to travel these holidays and book a last minute getaway; a mid-week stay or an early December escape might be the perfect chance to visit one of our beautiful destinations in the lead up to the busy holiday season.”
NRMA Parks & Resorts is one of Australia’s largest holiday park operators, with 37 parks owned and managed across Australia.
“This summer is the perfect time to travel with family and explore somewhere new such as our beautiful destinations in the tropical North of Queensland during the ‘green season’; stay at South West Rocks on the mid-North coast of NSW; to visit the historic Port Arthur, Tasmania; or head inland to Ballarat for a country escape,” Mr Davies said.
“If you’re looking to stay closer to Sydney during the holidays you can still book a stay during peak season on the beautiful South Coast at Batemans Bay, Merimbula and Shellharbour parks; but book soon as availability is limited.
“Our parks are also renowned for hosting family friendly activities so visitors can make the most of activities for all ages including, dances, family trivia nights, talent shows, bingo, craft activities, and the Bear Grylls survival academy.
The ‘top 5’ parks for bookings this summer are:
- Murramarang Resort – South Coast NSW
- Forster Tuncurry – Mid North Coast NSW
- Treasure Island – Gold Coast QLD
- Bright – VIC High Country
- Ocean Beach – Central Coast NSW
