The Mount Lofty House team are delighted to introduce Martha Hardy’s Kitchen to Mount Lofty Estate, a new a la carte restaurant for both in-house guests and visitors to the Estate.

Mount Lofty House Estate, known for its epicurean delights, has become a destination for dining in South Australia with Martha’s Kitchen set to complement the three hatted Hardy’s Verandah Restaurant, Arthur Waterhouse Lounge, and the bespoke food and wine experiences available on the Estate.

Martha Hardy’s Kitchen, is named after historical custodian Arthur Hardy’s wife, who roasted sides of lamb and whole legs of beef in the kitchen for the couple’s extravagant grand social events at the Estate in the 1850’s.

South Australian owner David Horbelt and business partner Malcolm Bean said Martha’s would offer guests another dining option at the Estate.

“We’ve noticed our guests are increasing their length of stays at both Sequoia and Mount Lofty House, so we wanted to offer them more dining options on the Estate,” said David.

“We now have the three hatted Hardy’s Verandah Restaurant with short and long course degustation, Martha’s a la carte restaurant, Sequoia Lounge dining and the Arthur Waterhouse Lounge for smaller snacks.

“It was only fitting to name our new restaurant Martha’s given the feasts that were prepared by her in the kitchen of the manor house.

“Like Hardy’s Verandah, Martha’s offers panoramic views over the Piccadilly Valley. We’re really pleased to offer our two restaurants to both guests and the public, and continuing to sharing the history of Mount Lofty House including the hospitality of Arthur and Martha through our restaurants.

“It’s part of our expanded food and beverage offering and we’ll also be bringing more dining options to the Estate in time for summer.”

Martha’s a la carte menu is a salute to Martha Hardy’s home style cooking with slow cooked lamb as the signature dish. A Fleurieu Peninsula Lamb Shoulder, for two, is braised for 17 hours and served with caramelised pumpkin puree, confit turnip, heritage carrots and garlic jus.

The menu focuses on fresh regional produce with Port Lincoln Yellowfin tuna, 36 degrees Coonawarra Beef, Spencer Gulf Prawns and Murray Bridge free range chicken all accompanied by fresh spring greens and garlic and lemon infused Kipfler potatoes.

Vegetarian led dishes include Mediterranean stuffed eggplant, Chimichurri Cauliflower Lemongrass and turmeric pumpkin soup, and the cheese platter, a selection of local Adelaide Hills artisan cheeses from Section 28, is served with walnut rolada, quince paste and baccos leaves.

The lunch menu offers some smaller dishes and classic hotel style fare including fish and chips, buttermilk chicken sliders, Thai Rice noodle salad and a golden sourdough club sandwich, and is also available for room service.

Martha’s is located on the lower level of Mount Lofty House, with glass frontage offering sweeping views over the stunning Piccadilly Valley.

Guests of the Estate now have three dining options on site, the three hatted Hardy’s Verandah Restaurant, Martha Hardy’s Restaurant and the Arthur Waterhouse Lounge. Sequoia guests also have exclusive access to the Sequoia Lounge for lunch and dinner.

Martha Hardy’s Kitchen will be open seven days a week for lunch and dinner from Wednesday 5 October 2022.
