Two recently restored cabins, nestled in beautiful Megalong Valley on Gundungurra Country in Blue Mountains National Park, are now available to book for accommodation.

Galong cabins, previously used by horse pack saddlers in the 1970s in the Blue Mountains, have undergone a refurbishment by NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) to offer a unique nature getaway with modern comforts.

The cabins, located near Dunphys campground, are the first hard-roofed accommodation offering by NPWS in the upper Blue Mountains.

The cabins have been named after local trees by the traditional Gundungurra owners – Wirruumba, meaning Stringybark, and Dhurrumbyang, meaning Big White gum.

The remote cabins provide a peaceful outlook to the surrounding Kanangra wilderness and are perfectly located to access scenic day walks along the Cox’s River or connect to the popular Six Foot walking track.

Each cabin has two bedrooms and can accommodate up to four guests. After a day of exploring in the wilderness, guests can retreat to the cabins and take advantage of a full kitchen, hot water showers, air conditioning, a slow combustion fire and a veranda with spectacular views across to Jenolan.

They are ideal for adventurers or nature lovers looking for a remote getaway in a wilderness setting with peaceful surrounds and wildlife in abundance including wallabies, kangaroos and wombats. Groups can also consider booking both cabins for a larger group or family getaway.

The cabins are remote and no wi-fi is available – providing a true ‘off-grid’ nature experience – so guests are encouraged to pick up supplies from major mountain villages Katoomba or Blackheath, which are less than an hour’s drive away.

Rates: Weekend – from $300 p/n. Minimum 3-night stay. Midweek – from $250 p/n. Minimum 4-night stay.
