Vinnie died in the place he loved. The clinic on Nusa Penida, an undeveloped island off the mainland of Bali, was under-equipped. No defibrillator and the ECG equipment were not operational.
His family hope to help others next time so that they may enjoy this slice of paradise without tragedy. Nusa Penida lies off the tourist track. Known for its beautiful beaches, you can visit on a day trip by speedboat. But the best way to enjoy the island is to spend at least a few days there.
Vinnie was enjoying the seaside and relaxing with his family his wife Annette, known as Annie, his children Lily, Ruby and Jack, and their extended families. It was a place Vincent and his family had visited many times. On this particular visit, Vinnie required lifesaving equipment.
However, the Nusa Penida clinic did not have operational ECG equipment or a defibrillator. Vincent Paul Mumford of Elsternwick Victoria died on July 3. The Mumford family’s tragedy sparked a crowdfunding campaign in memory of Vinnie and his deep love of Bali and her people. The family are raising funds to be able to buy a defibrillator or similar and take it to the local medical team on their next visit.
Annies cousin, Meredith, helped create the mycause fundraising page on 12 July. Family and friends raised almost 7,000 for the cause in under a week. With the donations are a flood of messages, many expressing fond memories of Vincent and the family. Mark writes Rest In Peace, Vinnie. An exceptional human.
Always a gentleman, and fond memories of him at Devon St. and gone too soon. Natalie writes Thank you for thinking of this idea. While working in the Nature Reserve, Vincent talked so much about these places My deepest sympathies to the family. RIP.
