The countdown is on until the second ever Geelong Design Week kicks off with more than 60 creative, compelling and inspiring events on offer. Celebrating Geelong’s title as Australia’s only designated UNESCO Creative City of Design, the 10-day Geelong Design Week program runs from Thursday 17 – Sunday 27 March 2022.

Themed taur – meaning ‘belonging’ in the language of the Wadawurrung people, Geelong Design Week brings all facets of community together.

Musician and actress Clare Bowditch will launch Geelong Design Week on Thursday 17 March with her opening event titled, Big Dreams, creative resilience, and the stories we tell ourselves: an evening with Clare Bowditch.

Filled with music and storytelling, the launch event will take place at The Palais, a classic art deco theatre that has been recently refurbished in the heart of Geelong.  The event is open to the public with limited tickets available for sale for only $35 (plus booking fee), guests will enjoy refreshments on arrival. One of the highlights will be the much-loved Open Studios program, which will run over the two weekends during the celebration of all things design.  To make it easy for art lovers and visitors to navigate, the two weekends have been organised by precincts: the South and East and North and West of Geelong and its surrounds.

More than 115 artists at 37 venues will throw off the drop sheets, open their doors and showcase their work for this popular and signature event on the Geelong Design Week calendar.  Giving art lovers a behind the scenes peek into these artistic and creative workspaces, visitors can get up close and personal to watch the artists at work, asking questions whilst the artists create their particular kind of magic and may even choose to purchase artworks directly from the artist.

The first weekend, Saturday 19 – Sunday 20 March, will feature 22 galleries and studios and 48 artists in the South and East region and the second weekend, Saturday 26 – Sunday 27 March, will feature 15 galleries and studios and 68 artists in the North and West region.

The festival is an initiative from the City of Greater Geelong to celebrate its designation as Australia’s first (and only) City of Design through the UNESCO Creative City Network.
