With the biosecurity determination banning cruise ship operations in Australia in place since 2020, Federal Tourism Minister Dan Tehan, speaking at an event in Sydney confirmed that that the determination is being reviewed this month, with the date of June 17 already well known to be in place for an announcement of the review.

Tehan appeared optimistic, indicating that he would like to see more cruise ships operating in Australia and in the bubble with New Zealand, however he also said that he and the Government would defer to the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC), which includes the chief medical officers of all the states and territory, who have advised the Government through the pandemic.

Tehan is quoted as saying, “My hope is that if we can continue managing the pandemic like we are, we will be able to see more cruise ships being able to ply our waters, and hopefully ply the waters between Australia and New Zealand as well”, adding that he looked forward to working with the cruise industry over the coming weeks to continue to increase cruising here in Australia.

Minister Tehan…the cruise sector and the travel and tourism industry are waiting with anticipation!
