The Australian snow season is officially on its way with snow blanketing Thredbo Resort twice in the past month. Named Australia’s Best Snow Resort for the fourth year running, Thredbo is gearing up for what is set to be an incredible snow season. So, what’s new and improved for 2021?
Improved online and in-resort guest experience
Improvements have been made to the online and in-resort guest experience with the introduction of MyThredbo Card Kiosks placed in Thredbo Village and in Jindabyne to allow for 24-7, contactless collection of lift pass cards. After pre-purchasing lift, lesson and rental products online, guests can simply scan their barcode from a printed receipt or mobile phone to collect their cards. MyThredbo Card Kiosks will be located in Jindabyne at Guest Services at Nuggets Crossing and in Thredbo at Friday Flat and Valley Terminal.
Adding to Thredbo’s infrastructure, guests who visit Thredbo will have additional car parking options with a new carpark expanding the resort’s car space capacity by 84 spots.

Beyond world-class skiing and snowboarding, bookings are now open for a series of new experiences that will make Thredbo truly one-of-a-kind this winter.
Sunrise Sessions
On Tuesday mornings during peak season, guests can stand at Australia’s highest lifted point to see the sunrise before fuelling up for a day of riding at Eagles Nest, the country’s highest restaurant. Guests finish the morning with first tracks down Supertrail, Australia’s longest run.

Kareela Snowcat Dinners presented by G.H. Mumm
Dining is taken to new heights with this premium experience. Guests travel up the mountain via snowcat to enjoy a glass of Mumm champagne while they watch the stars and village lights twinkle to life on Kareela deck. Moving inside Kareela Hutte, guests can get cosy in the European-style hut while enjoying a four-course meal with Mumm Champagne and premium wines.
Select Wednesday evenings. $219 per person including a four-course dinner and three-hour premium beverage package. Ages 18+.
Merritts Mountain Haus Feast + Snowcat Experience
On select Saturday nights guests can ride up the mountain in Australia’s only alpine gondola to Merritts Mountain House where they will be greeted with a feast of Bavarian-inspired dishes. This is a family-friendly opportunity to enjoy a Saturday night like no other. The ride down is an unforgettable one with views of the Thredbo Village lights below.
$119 per adult and from $59 per child. All ages.
Or choose to step the night up another notch and add on a Snowcat Tour ahead of the dinner to watch the iconic Thredbo Flare Run and Fireworks Show from Kareela Deck.
$249 per person. Ages 18+.
As well as the new experiences, Thredbo is offering a stacked line-up of events that will keep guests of all ages entertained, both on and off the mountain.
New Ambassadors Go for Gold!
Thredbo is supporting a stack of Australia’s best snow athletes as they head toward the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics with a fleet of new ambassadors flocking to Thredbo as they prepare for next year’s games.
Joining a long line of ambassadors including three-time Winter Olympian Torah Bright, is 16-year old Valentino Guseli who is best known for recently breaking the World Record for the highest halfpipe air. Alongside Guseli will be Slopestyle boarder Tess Coady and Snowboard Cross champs including 2018 silver Olympic medallist Jarryd Hughes, 2020 gold medallist (Youth Olympics) Josie Baff and 21-year old Paralympic veteran Ben Tudhope while Abi Harrigan adds a skier to the star-studded ambassador mix.
How about the après?
From as early as Opening Weekend onwards (regardless of snow conditions) guests can jump onto the Merritts Gondola, Australia’s only alpine gondola and head to Merritts Mountain House Deck for a line-up of season-long entertainment. On Thursday, Friday and Saturday afternoons, Corona Sunsets will be delivering tunes and good times on the Merritts Deck.
Thredbo’s Alpine Bar will be bringing back everything après as live music returns. At “Alpine Après, presented by Heineken,” tunes, firepits and good times will be in plentiful supply on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights throughout the season.
Moving beyond après and into the evening, Thredbo’s best kept secret, Segreto has been re-imagined. Now a late-night supper club, patrons can expect speak-easy vibes into the late hours of the evening. The menu has been carefully crafted with twilight grazing in mind; think delectable deli selections and antipasto platters accompanied by rich reds, delicate whites and hand-crafted cocktails.
What about the slopes?
Further expanding Thredbo’s already modernised fleet of snow grooming machines, 2021 has Thredbo set to be the only resort in New South Wales to have a full SNOWsat fleet on mountain.
Bringing satellite and real-time digital analysis to snowmaking and grooming, the state-of-the-art SNOWsat technology will provide instantaneous and accurate snow depth information to ensure the trails are in tip top condition for riding.
A brand new PistenBully 400 winch is also joining the crew to groom those extra steep runs and jumps.
Thredbo’s snowmaking system has undergone a series of upgrades during the summer period, with the snowmaking guns ready to fire up across the resort as soon as conditions allow.
In exciting news for terrain park lovers, Thredbo Terrain Parks will be back with Antons and Cruiser parks making a comeback while a beginner pop-up park will have new shredders carving up entry-level features.
Previous Cardrona Shaper, James Byrne has made his way to Thredbo to flex his expertise for the 2021 season. Speaking of what’s to come he said “I’m really excited to be part of the Thredbo team. We have some really interesting and unique projects in the works for winter and I can’t wait to get amongst it – stay tuned.”
What’s new on the Environmental front?
This year, Thredbo was the first Australian snow resort to achieve EarthCheck Gold Certification by meeting rigorous environmental standards across ten key performance areas spanning greenhouse gas emissions, energy efficiency, conservation and management, land use planning and management and waste management. EarthCheck is the world’s leading environmental certification and benchmarking program for the travel and tourism industry.
Speaking of the achievement, Euan Diver, Thredbo Environmental Manager said, “This award represents five years of continuous certification and the commitment of the entire Thredbo team to our sustainability journey. This accolade recognises us as a leader among a unique worldwide group of sustainable tourism destinations that are certified to the internationally recognised EarthCheck Destination Standard.”
