Couples who want to share their wedding day with their most “significant other” – their pet – can now ensure that their four-legged friend will be treated as a VIP on this most special of days.

The heritage Mercure Canberra has been offering pet-friendly rooms for many years, and following many requests to host dogs at wedding receptions, the Mercure team decided to partner with Guest of Honour Pet Chaperones to be able to extend the hospitality to canine members of the family.

The private courtyard garden at the Mercure Canberra is the perfect place to tie the knot. With beautifully manicured gardens and lawns that directly access the pet-friendly rooms, dogs feel very welcome and relaxed.

Kellee and Lee at Guest of Honour Pet Chaperones provide the ‘TLC’, transport and loving care of the dog to enable the couple to concentrate on the ceremony and reception, but also have their four-legged friend share with them the special day when it matters most.

Both are dog trainers and Lee also has a background in behaviours. They will visit couples located in Canberra and surrounds (or via Zoom for couples located further away) to prepare for the wedding and discuss how their pet can be involved. They provide fully equipped dog-friendly cars and their vast experience of caring for pets ensures the wedding day is as stress-free as possible.

While predominantly catering for dogs, Guest of Honour Pet Chaperones has also looked after pet rabbits and cats for travellers attending functions and events.

The Mercure’s wedding packages can be paired with a Pet Chaperone package that can include transport to locations for photos, chaperoning the pet at the function, taking the dog for walks and dog-sitting in the couple’s pet-friendly Mercure room till midnight. They can also stay overnight and look after the dog if the couple are planning an after-wedding party.

A range of packages are available, starting from $490, while Mercure Canberra pet-friendly accommodation is available from $145 per night.

Mercure Canberra wedding packages start from $65 per person and the stately hotel offers a wide choice of reception venues both indoors and outdoors for up to 180 guests. The extensive gardens and terraces provide ideal locations for atmospheric ceremonies, receptions and photographs.
