Tourism Tropical North Queensland (TTNQ) have partnered with Pinstripe Media to host a thought-provoking 1-hour webinar, ‘The Greater Purpose of Travel’, on Friday 22 October at 11.30am AEST.

Hosted by David “Kochie” Koch, the panel will include tourism heavyweights, media personalities and TNQ business owners.

The panellists are John O’Sullivan, CEO at Experience Co; Lee Tulloch, travel writer and author; Johnny Murison, Jarramali Rock Art Tours; Quentin Long, co-founder of Australian Traveller Media; and Mark Olsen, CEO of TTNQ.

The panel will discuss how current global circumstances are driving the desire for a greater purpose of travel and how it translates to various levels of the industry, not just tourism.

Says Mark Olsen, TTNQ CEO: “We want to challenge the webinar viewers to consider these questions in the light of a unique destination like Tropical North Queensland where the proposition has long been for visitors to immerse themselves in the remarkable environment that is the Great Barrier Reef.”

Tropical North Queensland is the leading nature-based and eco-tourism destination in Australia with the Douglas Shire (Port Douglas, Daintree & Cape Tribulation) the only Eco Destination in the country.

TNQ business operators have been Eco Certified for decades and have been actively innovating and contributing to critical environmental research for years.

“After our lockdowns, there is an overwhelming craving for meaningful contact and reconnection to the world beyond our four walls,” adds Mark Olsen.

“The webinar was born out of the idea that people will emerge and have a greater sense of consciousness about their travel plans – where they travel, how they travel, why they travel and what the impact of their travel could be on the communities and environments they visit. We want to challenge their thinking and be inspired by our region.”

Quentin Long, publisher of Australian Traveller Magazine says: “Research shows that our travellers now expect sustainable travel experiences. What’s more we are seeing a move beyond sustainable to regenerative travel. This shift is significant for everyone in the industry particularly in a destination like TNQ.

“I look forward to further explore with my fellow panellists what this will look like in a post-pandemic world where nothing will be quite like it was before and how the industry must adapt to this added dimension of customer expectation.”
