Thredbo is anticipating an added tourism boost this summer as travellers look to escape the cities and swap crowded spots for wide open spaces and nature.

Thredbo opens for hiking and mountain biking on 21 November and General Manager Stuart Diver said the resort was expecting a lot of excitement on opening weekend.

“We’re already seeing a lot of interest from guests pre-purchasing their hiking and mountain bike passes for summer. It’s great to see everyone getting behind Australian businesses after the year the community has had with bushfires and COVID-19. I’m looking forward to everyone escaping to our unique Alpine environment and enjoying the wide-open spaces our mountains offer,” Thredbo General Manager Stuart Diver said.

Thredbo is world-renowned as a winter destination and in warmer months the resort transforms into an incredible summer playground and hiking mecca. With more than 20 hikes on offer, Thredbo offers a unique experience for visitors to summit Mt Kosciuszko, Australia’s highest mountain. Travellers can stand on the roof of Australia and take in some of the best views in the country with stunning vistas of the iconic Snowy Mountains. The 13-kilometre journey takes between 4-6 hours and is family friendly.

“This summer is the perfect time to make the ultimate pilgrimage to the top of Mt Kosciuszko. Everyone should tick this off their bucket list with the family over summer, the experience will be unforgettable,” Mr Diver said.

Thredbo is also celebrating the 30th anniversary of its mountain bike park with the resort releasing their 30 Years of Gravity campaign last week. The campaign looks back at the progression of bike technology and trails over the past three decades.

Australia’s premier mountain bike park offers the only summer long chairlift access in the country with 34-kilometres of bike trails to explore including downhill, all-mountain and cross-country trails. There’s also a pump track and skills park for all ages to practice their skills. This year is the first time Thredbo will be offering a School Holiday Mountain Bike Camp and Development squad.

Off the mountain Thredbo River is home to some of the wildest trout in Australia for fly-fishing enthusiasts. Visitors can also enjoy a round of golf at Australia’s highest golf course, or try disc golf (one of the fastest growing and most accessible sports in the world). The Thredbo Leisure Centre has a gym, pool, sports hall and squash court.

For those in need of a bit of rest and relaxation Thredbo is offering yoga and wellness retreats with a highly renowned yoga teacher guiding participants through yoga and meditation sessions.

Thredbo Resort will continue to operate under its revised COVID-19 operating plan that has been developed under the advice of the NSW Department of Health. The revised model includes a range of social distancing, hygiene and sanitisation measures.

Thredbo is within a 3-hour drive from Canberra and a 6-hour drive from Sydney.
