Luna Park Sydney just ramped up all the good stuff, big time, following a $30 million renovation and the unveiling of eight new rides, with gates set to open on 26 June perfectly timed for the June school holidays.

Two years in the making, the upgrade has transformed the 86-year-old park into a world-class amusement park and Australian tourist attraction fit for the 21st century. Luna Park adds eight new permanent rides to its clickety-clack classics, including six children’s rides, a thrill ride and a family coaster, plus the new Big Dipper, a world-first single-line rollercoaster set to arrive later in the year.

With unrivalled views across Sydney Harbour – spectacular in the daylight, and simply breathtaking at night – the upgrade will cement Luna Park’s status as a truly modern entertainment precinct.

Luna Park Sydney Managing Director, Peter Hearne, said: “We are extremely excited to reopen the Park after five months of ride construction and park renovations. Our new rides combined with our existing classics has transformed our beloved fun park into a globally-recognised and highly sort-after destination for thrill seekers of all ages.

“Our grand reopening is the beginning of a new chapter; a chapter that will see our 86-year-old park, Sydney’s 86-year-old park, expand into a world-class amusement park while ensuring we retain its great heritage and history for future generations.

“No other amusement park has a location like we do, and we are privileged to call Sydney Harbour our home. We look forward to welcoming visitors into the Park.”

The new rides:
• Boomerang: The family roller coaster that keeps you coming back. It drops, twists, turns, and then does it all again – backwards. Australia’s newest G-force, G-rated coaster that has space not just for the kids, but the whole family to scream together.
• Sledgehammer: Sydney, sea, sky, and screams all mesh into one as the Sledgehammer swings and spins at the same time including a full 360° rotation! Once you’re locked and loaded, the hammer drops and whacks you with its full fury, back and forth, spun round and round, delivering G-forces that you didn’t even know existed.
• Little Nipper: With this family rollercoaster families can ride together. While it’s very family-friendly, it’ll still gives the kids the thrills they want while leaving parent’s stomachs intact.
• Cloud Nine: Cloud Nine takes you into the sky and back again, and again. Kiddies with parents alongside fit into these bright shiny hot air balloons.
• Silly Sub: It might be next to Sydney Harbour, but this submarine stays above water as it flies into the air like a swinging magic carpet motion. It’s pretty silly, but super thrilly.
• Loopy Lighthouse: Dropping and bopping up and down, this ride is perfect for the mini thrill-seeker – and is just like a mini version of the Hair Raiser. Yes, big kids can join too.
• Freaky Frogs: Jump on and leap around with our newest residents, Luna Frogs! Jump onboard your green machine and they’ll take you round and round. To be enjoyed by everyone, including our littlest park attendees.
• The Bug: A mini ferris wheel for mini people. Standing seven metres tall, kiddies will feel on top of the world on The Bug. Don’t worry, parents can join too!
• The Big Dipper (December 2021): The Big Dipper will return, but not as many know it. The new Big Dipper opening in December 2021 will be the world’s first single-line rail coaster, and Australia’s tallest and fastest multi-launch coaster. Strictly big kids only.

To match the iconic harbour views, Luna Park has taken the whole experience up a notch, with the introduction of a new Luna Perks Loyalty program (launching July 2021), rewarding fun-lovers and thrill-seekers alike.

Initially exclusive to Annual Pass holders who’ll nab unlimited rides all year round, the Perks Loyalty program includes a earn-and-redeem points system, money-can’t-buy experiences and early-bird event access.

Adding to the fun, Luna Play (launching July 2021) is a new online experience that takes Luna Park to a whole new level – before, during, and after a visit to the park. Luna Play allows access to a digital world where guests can get onto the Luna Park leaderboards, access a 3D interactive map of the park and buy photos taken while screaming on the wildest rides. Plus, guests will be able to plan their day down to the rides they go on first, food and Showtime Performances. As an added perk, NSW Government Discover vouchers can be redeemed against game passes.

Luna Park adds to the new offering with the winter opening of Amphora Wine Bar, a premium wine bar with a Mediterranean menu, in the iconic harbourside location boasting uninterrupted, breathtaking views. Prior to opening the impeccably-selected wine list has been awarded a Three Wine Glass Award from the prestigious Australia’s Wine List of the Year 2020. Amphora offers a spectacular destination for parkgoers and Sydneysiders alike, and joins the park’s 1950s American-inspired diner Helter Skelter and indoor dining venue Hungry Horse, with NSW Government Dine vouchers valid on all food and beverages within the park.

With nine new rides to be launched by the end of the year, the revamp to Luna Park Sydney is one of the biggest upgrades of any amusement park in the world. The new rides move in alongside Australia’s largest wave swinger ride Volare, the 38-metre sky-high Hair Raiser, legendary Rotor, the Wild Mouse and more.

There’ll be plenty to look forward to on the Luna Park Sydney calendar in 2021 including the spectacular annual VIVID light display in August, Halloscream 9 in October and the opening of the Big Dipper in December.
