Taking design cues from the streets of Melbourne and elusive laneway culture, each of the eight event spaces exude their own personality, combining raw elegance with signature scents to surprise all the senses. In keeping with the design narrative of the hotel, reveal to revel, guests will uncover aspects of Melbourne’s history and culture through the thoughtfully curated design moments in each space.
Spanning 426 sqm of pillarless space, the Great Room is the jewel in the crown and the largest of W Melbourne’s event spaces. The newest events offering in the city will bring together an abundance of natural light through floor to ceiling windows overlooking Flinders Lane & Williams Street and plays on the unmistakable colour pallet of Australia’s cultural capital in autumn.
A 4m x 5m LED wall has been installed at one end to deliver sound, light and elevated visuals that will bring any event to life.
A large original artwork by local Melbourne artist, Ash Keating acts as the centrepiece of the Great Room and spans nearly 30 metres across the ceiling. This piece is evocative of an earthy and golden Australian landscape from an aerial perspective. Keating returned to a method of painting titled ‘Natural System Response’ to accomplish this, spraying red copper and gold pigments onto a wet textured surface which was then theatrically lit before capturing the image. The artwork is set to captivate guests and elevate events held in the space.
