The 2020 Taiwan International Balloon Festival officially kicked off on July 11, where the Taiwan Excellence and MEET TAIWAN joint balloon gracefully rose to the sky in Luye, Taitung. The moment commemorated seven consecutive years of joint efforts between Taiwan Excellence, MEET TAIWAN, and the Taitung County Government to showcase Taiwan’s attributes to the world. The Taiwan Excellence and MEET TAIWAN balloon also has the honor of being one of the only hot air balloons from Taiwan to fly in all of this year’s active balloon festivals worldwide.

The Bureau of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Economic Affairs, together with TAITRA, have launched an Industry Image Enhancement Project (IEP), in addition to the preexisting Taiwan’s MICE Promotion Program (MEET TAIWAN). Their Taiwan Excellence and MEET TAIWAN balloon once again took part in the Taiwan International Balloon Festival. The world-famous balloon festival helps to launch both Taiwan Excellence and MEET TAIWAN further onto the world stage.

The opening ceremony, with the first hot air balloon taking to the sky on the morning of July 11, was attended by Director Mark Wu of TAITRA, Deputy Director Shu-Hui Lin of the Taipei International Convention Center (TICC), and Magistrate Ching-Ling Rao of Taitung County, as well as guests from the American Institute in Taiwan and Mexico Trade Services Documentation and Cultural Office. Hundreds of colorful mini hot air balloons were released by guests to officially kick off the 2020 Taiwan International Balloon Festival.

To catch the domestic wave of post-pandemic outdoor travel, this year Taiwan Excellence and MEET TAIWAN launched separate balloon ride events on Facebook and Instagram with a specially-made filter as the prize.

Taiwan Excellence and MEET TAIWAN also set up booths in Luye Highland this year. A variety of limited edition items for the 2020 Taiwan International Balloon Festival are available on-site, such as inflatable mini hot air balloons from Taiwan Excellence and MEET TAIWAN, painted hot air balloons, and other balloon-related souvenirs. From now until August 30, head to the Taiwan Excellence and MEET TAIWAN booths in Taitung’s Luye Highland to play interactive games for a chance to win limited edition balloon souvenirs.
