The Sydney Opera House today launches its new dining experience Taste of the House, an all-inclusive long lunch that gives foodies an opportunity to feast on menu favourites from the Opera House’s leading restaurants and bars.

During the intimate five-course lunch, guests are taken on a three-hour guided dining experience where they will enjoy some of the best Australian food and drink the Opera House has to offer:

  • At Opera Bar, guests will embrace their inner bartender in a cocktail-making class led by one of the venue’s master mixologists. Learning to craft the house favourite, the Sydney Sling – a refreshing cocktail of gin, mint, citrus, an Australian amaro and smoked lemonade – guests will enjoy their creation with a fresh seafood tasting plate, a specialty of the Opera Bar’s in-house Raw Bar.
  • Then it’s on to Opera Kitchen where guests will be welcomed with a house-made salumi plate, a schmiddy of beer and breathtaking views. Next up is a chef-led class where guests learn how to prepare a variety of condiments and fillings to create the perfect poke bowl.
  • For mains, Head Chef at Portside Sydney Karl Patrick Thomas will prepare a 12-hour braised Riverina lamb shoulder, served with sheep’s curd, sundried tomatoes and minted peas, accompanied by a seasonal side dish, bread and matching NSW wine.
  • To finish, guests will venture underneath the Opera House sails for Bennelong’s new dessert, the Chocolate Crackle, by Executive Chef Peter Gilmore. The modern twist on the childhood party treat features layers of chocolate cake, chocolate mousse, salted oloroso caramel, prune jam, chocolate ganache, caramelised whipped cream and organic brown rice crispies individually coated in four different kinds of chocolate, served with a side of live jazz music, performed by Australia’s best musicians.

Sydney Opera House Director of Visitor Experience, Jade McKellar, says: “With so much choice at the Opera House, we’ve taken the menu favourites from our leading restaurants and bars and turned it into an unforgettable roving dining experience. This is a great way for people to treat themselves to a lunch with a twist, surrounded by the history, architecture and art of this magical place, whilst feasting on great Australian food and drink.”

The intimate dining experience hosts 10 people per lunch, which allows guests to go behind-the-scenes to watch unforgettable moments from past Concert Hall performances in a new purpose-built venue featuring heritage-inspired interiors, 270-degree visuals, and surround sound.

Tickets to Taste of the House are $295 per person. The dining experience runs on the last Sunday of each month.
