Today, The Singapore Tourism Board welcomes the Singapore Government’s announcement of a unilateral Vaccinated Travel Lane (VTL) with Australia, with designated flights to be launched on 8 November. This follows the Australian Government’s press conference earlier this month, which announced that at least the
borders of New South Wales and Victoria would be open for international travel from 1 November. This marks a significant step on the flight-path to recovery for both countries’ tourism sectors.
Under the VTL arrangement, vaccinated Australians who travel to Singapore on designated VTL flights will not be subjected to quarantine arrangements upon arrival, but will be tested before and after they arrive in Singapore.
The announcement on quarantine-free travel to Singapore is significant as such a longawaited travel arrangement is expected to reunite families and friends, and kick-start business travel. There will also be a boost for the travel and tourism industries in both countries. Australia has been consistently in the top 5 visitor-generating markets for
Singapore, with 1.14 million visitors to the city-state in 2019 before the effects of COVID-19hit in ternational travel.
Oliver Chong, Executive Director Oceania of the Singapore Tourism Board, says, “We’re extremely thrilled with the resumption of travel between Australia and Singapore. We know Aussies are avid travellers and can’t wait to travel overseas, so we hope this will encourage them to make plans to visit Singapore as soon as they can.
Australia has been a close and long-standing trade and tourism partner for Singapore. We are confident that this Vaccinated Travel Lane will be warmly welcomed by everyone as we continue to move towards a safe and calibrated reopening of our borders.”
In November 2020, the Singapore Tourism Board introduced the SingapoReimagine campaign, an industry initiative that took a visionary approach to reimagining the future of travel, making travel a better experience in a post COVID-19 world.
The initiative brings together travel industry partners to reinvent Singapore products and experiences, and has created a new standard for travel to meet the evolving needs of visitors in this ever-changing environment.
To provide assurance for our visitors, Singapore will continue to place a strong emphasis on their well-being. Hotels, attractions and other businesses have Safe Management Measures (SMMs) in place which includes mask wearing, physical distancing and SafeEntry check-in and check-out using Singapore’s TraceTogether (TT) app1
.
Singapore’s SG Clean initiative – a national certification programme for businesses that meet high standards of cleanliness and hygiene – will be more important than ever.
Premises certified as SG Clean are identifiable by the certificate and signage, which are featured prominently within each establishment. More details and a full list of certified premises can be found here. These initiatives will give travellers added peace of mind as they explore Singapore.
“Singapore is known for being innovative and constantly evolving, and this hasn’t changed. Despite the pandemic, the industry has risen to the challenge, with new hotels, restaurants and bars opening in the past year for visitors to come and enjoy, along with old favourites, some of which have had makeovers too.
Together with our tourism partners, we look forward to welcoming our Aussie friends back to our city in a garden very soon”, says Mr Chong. Key new openings include:
