‘Shop the Neighbourhood’ this Christmas with Hotel Indigo

December 17, 2020 Hotel News No Comments

Just as no two neighbourhoods are alike, no two Hotel Indigo® properties are designed alike — each is inspired by its unique neighbourhood story and renowned for bringing these tales to life. With boutique hotels in over 120 vibrant neighbourhoods across the globe, Hotel Indigo has been combining stories of the neighbourhood with modern interior design and intimate service since 2004.

In February 2021, Australia’s first Hotel Indigo – Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets – will bring the brand’s strength as a storyteller to guests with unique experiences that explore Adelaide’s rich cultural history, exceptional local produce and design cues from South Australia’s mining and copper heritage.

To celebrate the upcoming arrival, Hotel Indigo has dived into the heart of the city to curate the ultimate ‘Shop the Neighbourhood’ Christmas Gift Guide. In the spirit of supporting local businesses, we’ve crafted this guide as an exploration of the streets and artisans of Adelaide, through the lens of Hotel Indigo’s warm and quirky aesthetic.

Shop the Neighbourhood

For the tea connoisseur:
Where to shop
T BAR
T BAR is a neighbourhood institution; a proud local family owned and operated business based in Adelaide. Their heritage harks back to the family’s monarch as their mum, Stella, would infuse and share tea around her 70’s retro laminate kitchen table. Today, T BAR offers around 120 blends and varieties using the finest leaves direct from growers in both loose-leaf and 100% plastic-free, bio-degradable teabags.

Hotel Indigo’s pick: Shop at T BAR HQ in Torrensville or explore their extensive tea library online. For added extravagance, check out the hampers and tea boxes from $26.95 to $149.00 to gift a selection of brews and cute gifts. The ‘Huge Tea Hamper’ is complete with a Gracie Grey tea pot and cup, T BAR South Australian made chai latte syrup and 12 varieties of signature favourite teas. Added bonus? T BAR will ship internationally for a taste of Adelaide abroad!

For the gin-lover:
Where to shop:
Kangaroo Island Spirits

It was one of the hardest hit regions during Australia’s bushfire crisis, before enduring further devastation throughout COVID. If there was ever a time for festive cheer, it’s now! The multi-award-winning Kangaroo Island Spirits (KIS) is a gin-producer based in South Australia’s Kangaroo Island and has reopened its iconic cellar door including experiences such as the 2-hour KIS Cocktail Masterclass from $98.00.

Established by locals Jon and Sarah Lark, they say the KIS team is proudly “in it for the character of the KIS lifestyle, the passion for inclusion (which includes sharing ideas) and being creative with botanicals.” Hotel Indigo’s pick: You’ll find their vivid passion throughout the entire gin range, with special packages perfect for Christmas including the KISMAS 5 pack for $200.00 or a KIS gift card for friends and family to choose their favourites. Be sure to try out the best of KIS when Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets opens in February!

For the ultimate foodie:
Where to shop:
Section28 Cheeses by Kym Masters
Elevate your festive grazing board, or bundle up a selection of the flagship Monforte and Mont Priscilla cheeses for an unforgettable indulgence that reflects the terroir of the Adelaide Hills. You can explore the range of cheese online or visit the ‘Smelly Cheese Shop’ in Adelaide where you’ll find the very best hand-crafted cheese including semi-soft cheeses like the Mont Rogue. Hotel Indigo’s pick: the champion flavoured Monte Diavolo is sure to be hit with a peppery, smoky and herbal aftertaste!

Section28 Artisan Cheeses is a small business and the iconic home of Alpine-style cheese, using the classic traditions of European cheesemakers and the very best milk from the Adelaide Hills. Section28 will play an influential part of the Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets’ menu for guests to experience the incredible produce in the city’s newest hotel.

For the one who has it all:
Where to shop:
Have You Met Charlie?
With a selection of gifts as unique and spirited as Have You Met Charlie? itself, this store is the ultimate home of Christmas giving. You can search almost every category imaginable to match the perfect gift – from eco-conscious presents to body & beauty and beautifully-crafted accessories, to gifts for babies, teens and impossible partners. Plus, it’s your one-stop shop for handcrafted Christmas gift tags, wrapping, decorations and more. Hotel Indigo’s pick: For $28.00, the Bon Voyage Mini Travel Earring Holder is the perfect companion to inspire summer travels.

From its humble origins as a pop-up shop in Adelaide’s Charles Street Plaza in 2014, Have You Met Charlie? has grown into a local icon in the Regent Arcade, full of interesting trinkets and gifts to entertain locals and visitors alike.

For the cultural connoisseur:
Where to shop:
Adelaide Festival
For an unforgettable mix of art, theatre, music and culture, package up a stay with the 2021 Adelaide Festival and Hotel Indigo. Over 17 days from 26 February to 14 March 2021, the Adelaide Festival will showcase 70 events in theatre, music, opera, dance, film, food and visual arts – including uniquely local programs Adelaide Writers’ Week, Chamber Landscapes at UKARIA and WOMADelaide. Choose your favourite event, from opera classic A Midsummer Night’s Dream, to physical theatre and local company Gravity & Other Myths’ The Pulse, Belvoir’s fun-filled musical theatre FANGIRLS or the incredible free installation The Plastic Bag Store in Rundle Mall and enjoy Adelaide’s vibrancy during festival time. As a partner of Hotel Indigo and curator of the neighbourhood, you’ll find Adelaide Festival posters hung in every room for a truly enhanced festival experience.

*The Hotel Indigo brand has gone from strength to strength over the years, with 126 open globally and another 99 in the pipeline. In Australasia, Hotel Indigo Adelaide Markets will open in February 2021, the first to open in this market, with more to come in destinations including Melbourne and Auckland. IHG hopes to announce some more Hotel Indigo signings in the coming months.
