The San Francisco International Airport (SFO) concluded an eight-month series of drive-through food distribution events on Monday, June 21, 2021. Since November 2020, SFO has hosted 16 food distribution events, which provided over 450,000 pounds of food from Second Harvest of Silicon Valley to support over 15,000 people in need, especially those impacted by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This food distribution program demonstrates our commitment to care for our communities,” said Airport Director Ivar C. Satero. “This was a creative solution, repurposing an unused space to provide an easy-to-access location for donated food to be distributed. We thank the SFO volunteer team who made this possible, and we are grateful for our partnership with the Second Harvest of Silicon Valley.”

For this program, SFO converted a dormant vehicle staging lot near Long-Term Parking to serve as a drive-through distribution site. As passenger activity continues to increase, this lot will revert to its original purpose. SFO will continue to support programs that help those experiencing food insecurity.
