We all love a good barbie and even more so when it raises money and awareness for a cause close to so many hearts of those in the Whitsundays.

September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month and Coral Sea Marina are rolling up their sleeves and putting on a community event designed to support all the families that have been affected by prostate cancer here in the region.

This year, the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia’s theme is “Together for the long run”, and Coral Sea Marina are joining forces with the Whitsunday Prostate Cancer Support Group and the Rotary Club of Airlie Beach to welcome the community to enjoy a “BIG AUSSIE BBQ” at The Gardens, Coral Sea Marina on Friday 17th September from 4pm – 6pm.

Pick out your favourite blue outfit and enjoy a traditional Aussie BBQ, live music and some family-friendly fun where all proceeds are donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

“Promoting awareness and raising much-needed funds for prostate cancer support and research is a cause that is close to our hearts at Coral Sea Marina”, says Marketing, Sales and Services Manager, Joscelyn O’Keefe.

“With one in six Australian men being impacted by prostate cancer, we wanted to take the opportunity to put on an event to support those who have faced this struggle as well as their families.”

This event is proudly supported by local businesses who are putting their hands up to donate food, entertainment, and support. This includes Master Butchers Whitsundays who are providing their iconic sausages, D’Vine Catering serving up the salads, The Prickly Pineapple dishing out the toppings, and many more. Big Aussie BBQ T-Shirts will also be for sale and all the proceeds will be donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

John Ryan, the founder of the Whitsunday Prostate Cancer Support Group, understands the importance of community support for those who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer.

“After the closing of the Proserpine Support Group only a few years ago, and with prostate cancer affecting so many men in the region, the Whitsundays were in need of a local group and that’s when the Whitsunday Prostate Cancer Support was created at the beginning of this year, 2021”, says Mr Ryan.

“This group is designed to provide support and information to the men and their families who have been diagnosed with or undergoing treatment for prostate cancer. I personally invite you to join us for our monthly meetings, held on the third Wednesday of each month.”

Pop the date in your diaries and come on down to watch the Coral Sea Marina team fire up the barbie on Friday 17th September at 4pm. Ms O’Keefe hopes this event will provide a wonderful opportunity to bring the community together to “savour good food, savour close friendships, and savour conversations that can help save a life”.
