The Samoa Tourism Authority (STA) has announced this week a much-needed $5 million cash injection for struggling tourism operators, as part of a Government stimulus package.

More than 200 local hotels, beach fales, tour operators and travel agents will benefit from the stimulus, which aims to revitalise the industry and expedite the recovery of the travel sector following the impacts of COVID-19 and the closure of the nation’s borders to international visitors since early 2020.

Tourism businesses will be able to utilise the assistance on maintenance, repair works or replacement of amenities or equipment, wage subsidies, annual fees and subscriptions, operational costs and any other priorities to support their business – all to ensure operators are travel-ready ahead of the borders likely reopening in early 2022.
