December 8, 2020 Headline News No Comments

This has been in the making for quite some time and Rex (Regional Express) announced on Wednesday that it started selling tickets between Sydney and Melbourne for a 1 March launch featuring its new livery that will sit on its Boeing 737 fleet.

Rex also confirmed it would initially operate nine return services a day between the two cities, the introductory prices at discounted fare starting at $79.00 is for the first 100,000 tickets.

Rex’s upcoming routes linking Australia’s two busiest cities will offer all the usual perks of a full-service airline, which will include eight Business class seats, checked baggage allowance, food service, pre-assigned seating, and online check-in facilities.

Lounge access and on-board wi-fi will also be free for Business class passengers, whilst Economy customers will be able to access these options for a small fee. Rex Deputy Chairman John Sharp confirmed that Rex is expected to win consumer confidence aiming to offer premium full service with their trademark country hospitality but at fares fixed at the budget carrier level.

Sharp also announced Rex’s plans for expansion to the metropolitan east coast which will mark a new era for Australia’s domestic air travel.  Australians can look forward to not only a safe, reliable, and affordable airline, but one they can count on for the long-term. Rex is eyeing plans to grow its fleet to 8-10 jets by late 2021.

The first three of Rex’s Boeing 737-800s will take off between Sydney and Melbourne on 1 March 2021, and the airline will begin with nine return services per day between the two-state capitals.

Rex will add another two Boeing 737s by Easter as part of its domestic network expansion to Brisbane and other capital cities.

If all goes to plan, Rex hopes to grow its Boeing 737 fleet to around eight to 10 by the end of 2021.

Best wishes Rex!
