Brisbane Cycling Festival rolls into town from 1 – 11 July 2021 after Greater Brisbane’s snap COVID-19 lockdown forced the postponement of its initial March and April program of events.Timed to coincide with the famed Tour de France road race, Brisbane Cycling Festival welcomes back more than 100 exhibitors, sponsors, partners and affiliate events including the Tour de Brisbane, partnered with Splatt Lawyers on Sunday 11 July.
AusCycling Queensland – General Manager Sean Muir said he was grateful for the amazing support the Festival received following its sudden and unavoidable date change.
“While the recent postponement was disappointing for so many, this announcement is exciting and will bring huge opportunity to the festival and Brisbane,” Mr Muir said.
“The new dates from 1 – 11 July work in so many ways, not least of all because the Tour De France will be on during the same period.
“The Festival is a great excuse to get on your bike, head to Brisbane and leave behind the winter weather elsewhere in Australia.
“The majority of our 100+ stakeholders have confirmed they will be involved on the new dates so we look forward to delivering a world-class event here in Brisbane.”
Tour de Brisbane, partnered with Splatt Lawyers returns with a fast and technical course spanning tough reverse climbs up Mt Coot-tha to long stretches over city streets.
Riders of all abilities can experience the city like never before as the ultimate Sunday ride navigates 110km of fully closed city roads across a variety of course distances.
Tour de Brisbane, partnered with Splatt Lawyers, aims to raise $200,000 for The Common Good charity in support of heart and lung transplant research at Prince Charles Hospital.
The citywide celebration of cycling comes together at Brisbane Showgrounds with a free pop-up Festival Village welcoming riders and spectators alike from 9 – 11 July.
The Festival Village entertainment will include daily Nitro Circus expression sessions, Cyclocross racing, BMX events, live racing streamed to the Festival big screen as well as daily highlights coverage of the SBS Tour de France coverage.
The Festival Village is also home to a free Active Lifestyle Expo showcasing the latest and greatest cycling technology, products and trends; learn-to-ride camps; come-and-try sessions; ebike demonstrations; food trucks; and live entertainment.
The adjacent vibrant King Street precinct will come alive with exciting festival events including the King St Kick-It Street Criterium, Wahoo Krank It Up Parties and King St Sprints.
The rescheduled Junior Track National Championships will take place at the Anna Meares Velodrome, Chandler from 1 – 4 July, in the lead up to Brisbane Cycling Festival.
New dates for the 2021 AusCycling Masters Track National Championships, also disrupted by the lockdown, are revealed as 28 – 31 July.
