December 4, 2020 Glamping No Comments

Australia’s most inspirational and innovative walking company – has the answer with its unique and affordable new service for hikers – ‘Adventure in a box’. This is a world first, offering all the elements that independent hikers want and need. RAW Travel has not only researched and mapped Australia’s classic walks, they have addressed the average hiker’s biggest concern: what to eat on the trails!

RAW Travel is a leading specialist for self-guided and iconic walks around the world, including the Camino de Santiago. Co-founders Dave and Mel Reynolds, who began the company 20 years ago, have used their extensive hiking knowledge and that of their staff, to craft a distinctly Australian series of ‘Independent Adventures’.

Trips start from just $199 and range from a 3-day micro-adventure on Victoria’s Grampians Peaks Trail to a 60-day 1000+km expedition on Western Australia’s Bibbulmun Track.

“We came up with something to suit the times. Australians are craving connection with nature and want to explore their own country,” says Dave Reynolds, Founder and Managing Director of RAW Travel.

“These are hikes for people who want to escape and explore the most epic landscapes in Australia, taking on the challenge and adventure of walking independently. People don’t want to spend endless days researching their trip, working out what they need to book, and preparing their food. We’ve tackled those big barriers,” says Dave

RAW Travel has used its collective experience as long-distance walkers and travel consultants to research the essential information required. Each hike comes with a comprehensive preparatory guide, an easy-to-use walking app and tasty trail food!

All booked for you!

RAW Travel takes care of the key logistics, including national parks passes, campsite bookings, and trail permits. An essential time saver! RAW Travel can also assist with transfers and pre/post hike accommodation.

Handmade trail food delivered to your door

The biggest innovation of RAW Travel’s new ‘Adventure in a box’ is their delicious range of locally-made Australian trail food, delivered direct to the door of hikers

RAW Travel has created its very own range of tasty, nutritious, lightweight, freeze-dried/dehydrated meals that will keep hikers well-nourished, satisfied and happy out on the trails. All ‘RAW Tucker’ ingredients have been sourced locally from suppliers on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, a region renowned for its high-quality produce.

RAW Travel’s meals have a modern twist and feature unique flavours from the Australian bush, improving on traditional hikers’ fare. There are plenty of vegetarian and vegan options available too.

Handcrafted recipes blending Indigenous ingredients include:

  • Creamy cauliflower leek and bacon soup with saltbush
  • Pumpkin and mountain pepperberry hummus
  • Slow roasted ratatouille with feta and bush tomato

Other meals have been inspired by RAW Travel’s travels around the world:

  • Himalayan three-coloured dahl (Nepal)
  • Hearty Tuscan bean hotpot (Italy)
  • Coconut curry and noodle soup (Japan)

Essential trail guides and exclusive walking app

RAW Travel has taken care of all the research needed for each walk – a task that seasoned hikers will tell you can take many days, even weeks. RAW Travel gives hikers the convenience of being thoroughly prepared for their adventure, without having to do all the boring legwork!

On the trail, hikers can use RAW Travel’s exclusive walking app for navigation in real time (no wi-fi signal needed). Campsite locations, points of interest, safety tips and other useful information is all included.

With the RAW Travel walking app, the essential trail guides and tasty RAW Tucker, hikers just need to add hiking boots to have a great Australian adventure.

‘Adventure in a box’ hikes depart from 4 January 2021.
