Balcony Suite NEWIn a city synonymous with sun and sea, a new era in luxury cruising unfolded with the christening of Norwegian Cruise Line’s latest marvel, Norwegian Viva. The event, held in Miami, the cruise line’s home city, was a celebration and a statement of innovation and excellence that has come to define the brand over its 57-year history.

David J. Herrera, president of Norwegian Cruise Line, couldn’t hide his excitement. “Christening Norwegian Viva here, in our own backyard, is a proud moment for us. It’s more than launching a ship; it’s about our team’s relentless effort and passion,” he shared.

Norwegian Viva’s entrance is no ordinary event. It marks the continuation of NCL’s groundbreaking Prima Class, a series that has already redefined maritime luxury. The ceremony, graced by over 1,500 guests, occurred in PortMiami’s LEED® Gold Certified terminal, underscoring the company’s commitment to sustainability.

Harry Sommer, president & CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd., highlighted the broader impact of Norwegian Viva’s debut. “It’s not just a milestone for NCL but for our entire fleet. Her exceptional guest satisfaction scores since the August launch are a testament to our vision and our team’s dedication,” Sommer remarked.

The christening’s highlight was the traditional champagne bottle break over the hull by Luis Fonsi, the vessel’s godfather. Fonsi, a GRAMMY® Award-nominated artist known for hits like “Despacito,” symbolizes the vibrant energy Norwegian Viva promises to deliver. “It’s an honour to be part of this celebration, bringing a taste of Latin flair to this magnificent ship,” said Fonsi.

The evening’s entertainment showcased Miami’s diverse cultural tapestry. Performances by “Saturday Night Live” cast member Marcello Hernandez, Latin Pop Queen Paulina Rubio, and GRAMMY® nominee Pedro Capó provided guests a glimpse of the world-class entertainment that awaits on board.

Norwegian Viva stands out with its 965-foot frame, designed to accommodate 3,099 guests in unparalleled comfort. Features like the three-story Viva Speedway and the Indulge Food Hall, with 11 unique eateries, set new standards in cruise ship amenities. Notably, the ship houses Dominic Harris’ awe-inspiring art piece, “Every Wing has a Silver Lining,” at the Metropolitan Bar.

Beginning December 15, 2023, Norwegian Viva will be homeport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, offering seven-day Caribbean voyages. Guests will explore tropical paradises without a single day at sea, with stops in the Virgin Islands, Antigua, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, and St. Thomas.

In April 2024, the vessel will transition to Mediterranean and Greek Isles itineraries, offering an unmatched opportunity to experience Europe’s beauty and culture. NCL’s ‘Free at Sea’ offer enhances these voyages, providing unlimited open bar, specialty dining, shore excursion credits, complimentary Wi-Fi, and more.

To commemorate the christening, NCL has curated a Live it Up! Spotify Playlist, inspired by Latin music superstars, echoing the vibrant spirit of the evening.

As the celebrations wind down, the excitement for Norwegian Viva’s journey is just beginning. This vessel isn’t merely a ship; it’s a floating testament to Norwegian Cruise Line’s commitment to innovation, luxury, and creating unforgettable experiences.
