While Victoria has dropped quarantine for vaccinated interstate arrivals, the NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet has announced the end of quarantine for double vaccinated international visitors entering New South Wales.
Perrottet told media, “I believe the road map we have set is the right approach,” and “But on one hand you say we’re going too quickly and on the other you hand say we aren’t going quickly enough”, adding, “The alternative is to stay closed from the world.”
added, “The fact that will New South Wales will be the only city and state open to the world is going to be a boom time for NSW.”
Queensland Health Minister Yvette D’Ath says Border opening should be up to the national cabinet and that said NSW’s decision to scrap quarantine from November 1 would have to be discussed by the national cabinet. She also said she had seen no details of how this would work, adding, “Opening up international borders is a matter for national cabinet,” but then adding, “It’s in Queenslander’s hands how quickly we open up.”
She said, “The announcement by NSW today makes it even more critical for people to get vaccinated”, adding, “If NSW is going to be letting international people with no quarantine we are running out of time.”
D’Ath said the Palaszczuk government will look at its own vaccination rates before deciding on when to open up the state’s borders and Queensland Chiel Health Officer, Dr. Jeanette Young said she needed to look at NSW’s reopening plan before deciding what impact it would have on Queensland’s border, adding, “Let me see it”, and “All I have seen is a very brief text message…I need to see more detail, please”.
Queensland as of Friday had recorded no new local coronavirus cases overnight, the 10th day in a row, but the Queensland Government is under increasing pressure to give a date for opening up and allowing inbound visitors.
In the meantime, NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet has said the NSW state government is “very open” to a return of cruise ships and the Prime Minister was “incredibly passionate” about that, with Perrottet saying he has been talking with the federal government on getting cruises back. He added, “If there is … a firm proposal on the table, we take that to the cabinet committee,” and “We are very open to that and working with the federal government to bring back cruising.“
