MTN Bushfire is on the cutting edge as it develops further into the digital space, bringing the many diverse elements of the festival to the virtual and broadcast worlds. Throughout 2021, MTN Bushfire will continue to showcase a broad range of top artists from Africa and across the world in a series of free online events designed for broadcast and streaming, and complemented by small invitation-only in-person activations, with all Covid-19 protocols adhered to.

The MTN Bushfire 2021 Digital Series will be a next-level experience featuring electrifying performances, a unique regional collaboration, a national music competition finale, an artist empowerment workshop, exclusive content, up-close access to artists, and one of the most exciting multicultural Digital Festivals to be seen on the African continent.

In preparation for this greater focus on online content, MTN Bushfire is launching new improved digital platforms to create seamless and enjoyable interactive viewing experiences for fans and guests. The MTN Bushfire 2021 Digital Series will be streamed online on the new MTN Bushfire website, mobile app and social media platforms, as well as broadcast on television by local and regional partners.

The following events have been confirmed for the 2021 roll-out of the MTN Bushfire festival:

25th June – MTN Bushfire Pulse Firefly 2021 Finale:

The long-awaited MTN Bushfire Firefly 2021 finale will take place at House On Fire and will be broadcast live on various digital platforms and will be broadcast on Eswatini TV. The finale will feature the Top 10 contestants, to choose the 3 winners. Voting to choose the Top Ten from the current Top 20 contestants will begin in May, and the voting process will be shared shortly. The competition and voting is open to Eswatini residents only.

30th July – The Collab:

This one-of-a-kind musical collaboration will feature a pair of top-notch Eswatini and regional artists, with the aim of inspiring new creative work and supporting the creative process.  The Collab will be broadcast on Eswatini TV and by regional partners, and will also include an exclusive Q&A and live acoustic performance with one of the collaborating artists at House On Fire.

27th August – MTN Bushfire 2021 Digital Festival:

The MTN Bushfire 2021 Digital Festival programme will showcase the world-wide programme diversity that MTN Bushfire is famous for, featuring over 20 artists from over 10 countries around the globe. This finale will combine customised and upgraded immersive online experiences with a small, invitation-only, in-person event, adhering to Covid-19 protocols. Eswatini TV and regional partners will also broadcast the MTN Bushfire 2021 Digital Festival, enabling fans to safely share the magic that is MTN Bushfire.

(date TBC) – Arts Round Table workshop:

MTN Bushfire 2021 will feature a workshop at House On Fire, geared towards empowering Eswatini and regional artists to monetize and market their craft, especially during this Covid-19 pandemic. Topics for the workshop may include digital marketing, artist management or electronic press kit creation. Participants may join physically as well as through Zoom to enable pan-African participation.
