Victoria’s Mt Baw Baw Alpine Resort has brought a long-time sports tradition to the snow as part of its inaugural “First Run” competition. One lucky winner who creates the most inspiring season message will win the right to kick off ski lift operations and ski or board through a footy crepe banner.“The idea came about after a discussion about Victorians and their passion for the footy – and we couldn’t believe this wasn’t already a thing – so we made it a thing” said Amon Bradshaw, Resort Marketing Coordinator. “We’re always looking for fun ways to differentiate ourselves and this is a real cracker”.

Victorians and AFL fans will be familiar with the crash through crepe banners that often appear before Australian Rules Football games as inspiring banners that the teams “crash” through – but they may not have seen someone ski through one before.

Jo Cardillo who won the 2021 competition was excited when interviewed after the event “Honestly I feel amazing. It’s an honour to be the first person to start a new tradition, especially something as fun as this. My family and I are having a great time at Mt Baw Baw so far, everyone has been so welcoming and kind.”

When asked to give her best advice to Victorians Jo added “Go out and explore, venture up the mountain, hit up the slopes and make some memories with your friends or family, you won’t regret it”.

Those coming to Victoria’s resorts from Greater Melbourne who are 12 and over currently require a negative covid test within 72hrs of their trip as per government directives with the Resort advising people to book in advance. More details can be found at https://mountbawbaw.com.au/covid-19
