Thanks to NSW Government funding and a commitment to preserving public recreational spaces, Reflections Holiday Parks has successfully completed beach nourishment works at Boambee Creek Reserve to combat the effects of erosion which has plagued the foreshore in recent years.Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh and Reflections Mid North Coast Operations Manager Allan Thomas visited the Reserve this morning to celebrate this achievement and discuss the next stage of this grant-funded project to investigate long-term erosion strategies.

Reflections Holiday Parks manages 37 holiday parks and 42 public recreation reserves, including Boambee Creek Reserve just north of Sawtell on the Coffs Coast. In February this year, Reflections was successful in receiving a grant of $86,075 from the NSW Government’s Crown Reserves Improvement Fund (CRIF) towards short and long-term options for the remediation to the foreshore area of Boambee Reserve.

Reflections Holiday Parks CEO Nick Baker said this injection of government funding was critical in allowing important community projects such as the foreshore remediation to go ahead, especially during this time of pandemic and lockdowns which has had such a profound economic impact in NSW.

“Boambee is a well-loved recreational space in the Coffs region and we were grateful for this opportunity to be able to address the ongoing erosion and investigate a long-term strategy for the foreshore moving forward,” Mr Baker said.

“The completion of the assisted beach recovery has widened the beachfront at Boambee for enhanced recreational use and provided temporary coastal protection of infrastructure including the access road boat ramp and multiple picnic shelters.

“This work has been essential in providing an interim increased defence while we understand what long-term protection strategies could look like and we are taking this time to get it right,”

Member for Coffs Harbour Gurmesh Singh congratulated Reflections Holiday Parks for its commitment to the foreshore’s environmental sustainability.“

“The NSW Government’s contribution of more than $86,000 to this local project, which includes identifying longer-term sustainable approaches to combat the recurring erosion at Boambee, is important for the reserve’s longevity,” Mr Singh said.

“Public recreation reserves like Boambee Creek are often the pride of our local communities and this investment will make sure that Boambee Creek shines when it is visited by hundreds of people each year.”

Mr Baker said work was already underway on the Coastal Process Study to determine long-term strategies and he looked forward to understanding the recommendations of new structures that could be utilised to reduce the frequency of erosion occurring every season.

“The Coastal Process Study will also be invaluable in applying for future grant funding,” he said,
