Focused on its ongoing responsibility to support micro-enterprises in Macau, Melco Resorts & Entertainment’s management team has offered mentorship and skills to local youth entrepreneurs through its Adopt a Micro-Enterprise program.
Organized in collaboration with Junior Chamber International (JCI) Macao, China, Macao Young Entrepreneur Incubation Centre (MYEIC) and Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center (CPTTM), the program aims to cultivate local youth entrepreneurs through leveraging expertise from Melco as well as the multi-disciplinary skills of its colleagues.
In September, representatives from six nominated micro-enterprises and members of MYEIC were invited to a City of Dreams experience tour and procurement technique sharing session hosted at Melco’s Heart of House employee area. During the experience tour at City of Dreams, participants were met by professionals possessing diverse skills from Melco’s various business units, including Warehouse, Wardrobe, Guest Experience and Events & Promotion — gaining an in-depth understanding of the integrated resort’s core operations. This was followed by a procurement technique sharing workshop hosted by Melco’s Supply Chain team, which highlighted tips for successful business pitching through effective marketing and business management skills.
Ms. Akiko Takahashi, Executive Vice President and Chief of Staff to Chairman & CEO of Melco Resorts & Entertainment, said, “We are delighted to see participants enjoy the program and find it helpful in improving their business management skills through the various training workshops and experience tours offered. Melco will continue its commitment to supporting local micro SMEs and youth entrepreneurs for the community’s sustainable development.”
Ms. San Choi, Deputy Director, Macao Young Entrepreneur Incubation Centre, said, “Exchanges with Melco’s various departments and their colleagues made available through the Adopt a Micro-Enterprise program has helped strengthen MYEIC members’ marketing and administrative management skills. The experience tour and procurement workshop also contributed towards members’ improved understanding of procurement procedures and quality control protocols, adding value to their business acumen and competitiveness.”
Ms. Helena Lei, Senior Manager, Standards, Management, Training and Assessment, Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Center, said, “Micro SMEs often find it difficult securing business deals despite having strong products on offer. The City of Dreams experience tour and procurement workshop has helped participating micro-enterprises understand that, rather than focusing solely on product development and marketing, the key is to provide clients with suitable solutions. To succeed as a supplier, micro-enterprises must identify challenges experienced by clients, and then showcase through sales and marketing opportunities how their products can effectively help clients overcome such obstacles. CPTTM will continue providing training to enhance commercial sales and marketing skills among micro SMEs and help them generate more business opportunities.”
Mr. Wilson Chu, Business Development and Partnership Director of MPS Company Limited, said, “I am grateful for the valuable opportunity offered by the program to explore Melco’s Heart of House. The tour has provided a fuller picture of the company’s operation processes, both from the frontline and backend. My mentor explained the procurement requirements of such large-scale integrated resorts, and also provided helpful insight on ways in which I can improve my own business.”
