The Taiwan-ICCA Meeting Master Camp (formerly known as ICCA-Taiwan MICE Bid Workshop), co-organized by the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT), MEET TAIWAN, and the world’s most authoritative international convention organization—the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), was held in Hualien during April 29–30, 2019, with the objective of cultivating professionals proficient at bidding for international conferences.

Speakers at the Master Camp were experienced international conference bidding professionals, including the co-managing director of Paragon Group, Israel and member of ICCA, Mr. Eyal Halevy; market development manager of Arinex, Sydney, Mr. Andrew Whait; Asia Pacific regional director of ICCA, Mr. Noor Ahmad Hamid; and president of K&A International Co., Ltd., Ms. Kitty Wong. More than 40 participants from professional conference companies, public associations, government organizations, hotel, and the tourism industry attended this Master Camp. Other participants included the deputy executive manager of the Eastern Taiwan Joint Services Center, Executive Yuan, Mr. Ying-Yi Kuo; director of the Hualien Tourism Department, Ms. Yu-Shu Tang; and director of Hualien Legislator Ms. Bi-Khim Hsiao’s Office, Ms. Yu-Chun Lin, just to name a few.

According to the deputy secretary-general of the program, Mr. Simon Wang, holding international conferences is the best way to promote a city, not only to boost the local economy, but also to attract more international visitors. He stated, “To continue our long-term partnership with ICCA, we organized the annual Taiwan-ICCA Meeting Master Camp this year in Hualien for the first time”. In contrast to traditional emphasis on the importance of success, Deputy Secretary-General Wang said that a number of failure case studies will be included in the courses this year, encouraging participants not to be afraid of failure if they want to improve their bid success rates.

Bureau of Foreign Trade Deputy Economic Counselor Mr. Kuo-Jui Yen mentioned that the Bureau has been promoting Taiwan’s MICE industry for a long time, and Kaohsiung successfully won the right to host the ICCA Annual Conference in 2020, furthering cooperation between Taiwan and ICCA. The Ministry of Economic Affairs is committed to enhancing Taiwan’s exhibition competitiveness and promoting the MEET TAIWAN plan. It has held cooperative courses with ICCA for seven consecutive years, actively cultivating convention and exhibition talents and seeking more opportunities for Taiwan to hold international conferences.
