Outrigger Hospitality Group has named Marcus Ito director of sales and marketing at the all-new Waikiki Beachcomber by Outrigger® and Taro Sawabe assistant director-market development with a focus on Asia and Japan.

As director of sales and marketing, Marcus Ito’s role is to drive top-line revenue to the Waikiki Beachcomber by Outrigger® through successful sales and promotional activities by maximizing prospective business opportunities from various business channels including Asia and North America wholesale, leisure, corporate, OTAs and government markets as well as sports, education and the meetings and incentive group market.

Ito will work closely with key property partners including Maui Brewing Company – Hawaii’s largest craft brewery, Hawaiian Aroma Caffé – one of Hawaii’s most Instagramable coffee shops and Magic of Polynesia. He will further drive brand fame with promotions surrounding the Beachcomber Originals – a collection of local artists and tastemakers who have helped shape Outrigger’s first lifestyle hotel.

Before joining Outrigger, Ito was with G.Lion Hawaii as director of sales and marketing. Prior he was with Trump International Hotel Waikiki in various capacities as director of sales and marketing, corporate global sales director-Asia, and director of leisure sales. Ito also worked for Wyndham Vacation Resorts as director of marketing, international/assistant to the senior vice president; for PacRim Marketing Group, Inc., as vice president of sales and marketing; and with The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua, as director of Asia Pacific sales and services. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Asian Studies from the University of Hawaii.

Taro Sawabe is tasked with developing and facilitating progressive business flow with Outrigger’s Asia and Japan accounts through effective communication and account management.

Previously, Sawabe served as operations manager at Kahala Resort, handling food and beverage services for quality control and financial performance and streamlining the total guest experience process. He also acted on behalf of the owners to ensure exceptional guest satisfaction to Japanese VIP guests. Prior, Sawabe served in various sales and marketing capacities at the Ritz Carlton Okinawa, Sheraton Grande Tokyo Bay and the Westin Resort Guam. Taro holds a Master of Science degree in electronic commerce from National University in San Diego.
