New York City is like a magnet to travelers from around the world and certainly Australians are punching well above their weight with the best visitor numbers ever this year according to Manhattan’s popular Hotel Beacon’s General Manager, Tom Travers.

A 28 year veteran of the homely 260 room hotel TT as he is affectionately known by staff and regulars, hosts more Australians than any other nationality and the numbers are increasing rapidly each year. This year visitation to the Beacon from guests down under is the highest for the last 10 years.

Situated on the upper west side one of Manhattans most sought after areas, the Beacon is comfortable, convenient and affordable and the only property in the vicinity with kitchenettes in each of the well-proportioned rooms and full kitchen facilities in the one bedroom suites. There is a stylish bar adjoining the reception area of the hotel where in-house guests receive a 10 percent discount on drinks.

Guests receive complementary high speed internet, have free access to the Business and Fitness centre plus the use of the well-equipped laundry and ice machine.  Adjoining the hotel on Broadway is the famous Beacon Theatre which has been pulling massive crowds to its shows. Notable names like The Monkeys, Seal, Liam Payne, Jethro Tull, Erasure, Joan Baez, Steely Dan and Alice Cooper take to the stage over the next few months.

Next to the Theatre is the well-stocked Beacon Wine Outlet with wines, spirits and beer from around the globe. The Beacon buildings take up most of the block from 72 street to 73 street fronting onto Broadway. “This area is very popular with New Yorkers and it is where they choose to live, not like Times Square which is a tourist precinct where you pay triple the price for most things.” Tom said. You are certainly treated like a New Yorker until they hear the Aussie twang.

A well-judged nine iron shot over Broadway from the Beacon will hit the ‘Fairway’. It’s not a golf course but a sensational delicatessen with take out and eat in and stocked with every food line imaginable.  Yes ‘Deli heaven’ for sure!!  Very traditional fare upstairs at the Deli restaurant; try the Rueben’s sandwich (hot corned beef stacked high) or a classy big Rib Eye complete with bone. Trivia buffs need to know that the Fairway Deli sells more than 70 tons of Parmesan cheese annually.

GM Thomas Travers

“The Fairway is one of our great assets because families can come to the hotel and buy nearly anything they want food wise drastically cutting meal costs.” Tom said.

The Beacon’s location is only a short walk away from a vast Central Park and offers easy access to many fine restaurants, clubs, museums and Broadway theatres. A short subway ride (the 72 subway is only 500 metres away) to midtown Manhattan where you will find a raft of sightseeing including the iconic Empire State Building and Time Square. https://www.beaconhotel.com/
