If ever there was an experience to put on your ultimate travel list, encountering gorillas in their natural habitat could very well be it. Majestic Whale Encounters, leaders in the eco-tourism space, are expanding beyond the sea and are set to take to dry land in 2021 to give intrepid travelers the chance to encounter gorillas in the wild. Rwanda, known as Le Pays des Mille (Land of Thousand Hills), is home to the world’s last remaining and critically endangered mountain gorillas, and where the new treks will take place.

For six days, the Majestic Whale Encounters itinerary combines luxury with adventure and, like all the company’s encounters, promises maximum animal interaction with minimal impact. The new encounter experience begins at the highly acclaimed Nyungwe House, which borders one of Africa’s oldest rainforests. The accommodation of luxury wooden villas sit above the treetops and reflect the best aspects of the beauty of the Nyungwe forest, and is from where the first trekking adventure takes place – a canopy walk and chimp trekking adventure.

Traveling further into the country, gorilla trekking commences at Volcanoes National Park, home to both gorillas and famed American conservationist and primatologist Dianna Fossey’s research station. Spend the day trekking through the bamboo-covered forest before coming face-to-face with the largest living primate for a truly humbling experience. Retreating of a night to the luxury eco-sensitive private Bisate lodge located in the natural amphitheatre of an eroded volcanic cone offers both dramatic views of the peaks of Bisoke and Karisimbi volcanoes rearing up through Afro-alphine forests.

Completion of the adventure doesn’t come before one last unforgettable animal experience that is the Golden Monkey trek. Both playful and inquisitive in nature, these subspecies spend their time leaping from bamboo and frolicking on the forest floor, meaning encountering these creatures in their natural habitat is both fascinating and captivating and adds even more reason to put Rwanda on traveler’s 2021 travel lists.

Majestic Whale Encounters’ Rwanda tour package includes five days in Rwanda with all transfers, main meals, alcoholic house beverages with meals, soft drinks, canopy walk, chimp, gorilla and monkey trek and two extra activities at Nyungwe and accommodation included.
