Liquid gold for your face

October 8, 2018 Lifestyle News No Comments

If you’re not sure what a serum does or why you need one, you’re not alone.

They’re moisturising but aren’t intended to replace your moisturiser. They’re sometimes oily, but they’re not really a face oil. It’s hard to know what they are exactly, let alone which one to choose.

The founder of Aussie skincare company Botany Essentials sheds some light on these mysterious little bottles of liquid gold.

What are they?

Botany Essentials’ Celestine Hade says serums are like an ultra nourishing booster shot for your skin.

“They’re loaded with skin plumping ingredients like antioxidants, essential fatty acids and a whole range of vitamins – bundled up into a lightweight yet powerful little potion,” says Celestine.

“Choose the right serum and it will lift your skincare regime to the next level,”

What do they do?

“They’re ultra-hydrating and nourishing, which helps smooth fine lines and blemishes,” says Celestine.

“And without any heavy pore-clogging ingredients, they penetrate deeply to really boost your skin’s health.”

How do I choose the right one for my skin?

“Look for brands that have good reputations, clinically test their products and list their ingredients,” Celestine says.

“For oily skin, I’d suggest a serum with salicylic acid and/or glycolic acid. Formulas made with hydrating proteins such as hyaluronic acid that attract water to the skin are great for dry complexions. Serums with vitamin C and retinoids will suit aging, dull or combination skin.”

How do I use them?

“Serums are highly concentrated with lots of active ingredients so they should always be applied to super clean skin,” Celestine says.

“So that the serum’s active ingredients can properly absorb, you should always wait until it’s completely dry before you move on to your gels and creams.”
