THE official opening day of the 2019 Kernewek Lowender Copper Coast Cornish Festival is Friday, May 17.Cornish people loved a good street parade and the Moonta sub-committee have put together a fantastic parade that is sponsored by Drakes Supermarkets and includes floats from local businesses, people walking in costume, vintage cars, live entertainment and band music.

“Moonta Area School students and other children will demonstrate Maypole and Furry Dancing down George Street which is sure to be a sea of colour and activity.”

Festivities will then move into Queen Square for Fer Kernewek, a traditional Cornish fair featuring varied stalls selling food, souvenirs and trinkets with entertainment throughout the day.

“There will be plenty happening in Queen Square including the always popular Pasty Bake-Off,” Glenys said.

“There are some great local identities signed up to be involved and it is always lots of fun.  This year, all participants will receive a Crib Bag full of goodies.”

The 2019 Kernewek Lowender will be officially opened in the rotunda at 1.30pm. “This includes welcome speeches from the official party and features the Australian and Cornish National Anthems played by the Band of the South Australia Police and local Kadina Wallaroo Moonta Band,” Glenys said.

“The entertainment and stalls being organised by the sub-committee sound fantastic and Swanky Beer produced by Watsacowie Brewery will be re-introduced this festival”

This year the festival runs for the full week commencing on Monday 13th May and concluding on Sunday 19th May.  There is something for everyone, Art, Classic Cavalcade of Cars and Motor Cycles, Concerts, Cornish Ceremonies, Feasts, Markets and Exhibitions.
