Burton Automotive Hunter Valley Steamfest is excited to announce ten years of continuous support from Burton Automotive and that, as part of the 35th anniversary program, the event will be extended into the night.Steamfest will take place on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 September and is one of Australia’s premier festivals of steam, attracting tens of thousands of people each year to celebrate Maitland’s rich steam and industrial heritage.

‘It’s our pleasure and privilege to present Steamfest. The festival is a great weekend of fun, and I enjoy seeing the same sense of wonder in kids eyes when they see the steam trains as I did when I was young.’
There will be an enriched program of activities on offer within Maitland Station Precinct. Fun for the young and the young at heart, Carnival Lane is the place to get your heart racing with thrill seeking amusement rides, arcades and showbags. If thrill seeking is not for you, attendees can meander through the Railway Street Collectors Market to pick themselves up a gem from yesteryear.
Steamfest will also come to life at night with the program being extended into the evening on Saturday 11 September. Concluding at 9.00pm, Maitland Station will be filled with quality food trucks and stalls, live music, carnival rides, steam related activities and more.
The Rally Ground will once again host an impressive display of steam powered traction and portable engines, vintage farm machinery and for the first time, the Steamfest People Mover, built by the Maitland Steam and Antique Machinery Association, will transport visitors around the Rally Ground.
Also located on The Rally Ground the Maker & Merchant display is a step back in time when the art of handmade was an essential skill. Inspired by traditional arts, forgotten craft and rare trades, our Makers and Merchants will transport Steamfest audiences with their skills and crafts of days gone by.
Chairperson of the Hunter Valley Steamfest Working Group Cr Peter Garnham says ‘it’s always an excellent weekend at Steamfest and with everything that’s planned and the locomotives attending, this year will be no exception.
‘I want to thank Burton Automotive and Norm Burton for their ten years of continual support, their contribution has allowed the festival to continue to expand and grow, to what is our city’s largest and most beloved flagship event’.
A spectacular display of motoring history will take place on the Sunday at Maitland Park at the ever popular Show n Shine. Hosted by Maitland Street Rodders, car enthusiasts will be revved up with an impressive collection of over 400 hot rods, classic and show cars.
The full line up of steam locomotives, heritage diesel engines, journeys and rail timetable will be announced in the
coming weeks.
