Welcome 2021 in Hobart style—and in silver and gold—In The Hanging Garden’s New Year’s Eve Garden Party. The team behind Dark Mofo invite you to gather together in your sparkly best and celebrate the new year In The Hanging Garden, drinking, dining, and dancing under the nave of the grand Cathedral.
“After this challenging year, we’re thrilled to be bringing a shining start to 2021,” said DarkLab Music Director Kimberley Galceran.
“For our New Year’s Eve Garden Party we’re running with the big and brassy vibes of New Orleans with seven-piece band Horns of Leroy, as well as Australia’s best ragtime and swing quartet Cope Street Parade. It’s going to be bold, gritty, glamorous and full of sparkling surprises. We can’t wait to share this golden experience with Hobart.”
In The Hanging Garden’s NYE Garden Party-starting tunes will come courtesy of Sydney swing and ragtime outfit The Cope Street Parade, who for more than a decade have brought their energetic style to blur the lines between contemporary and classic, inspired by greats like Louis Armstrong, Louis Prima, Father John Misty and Leadbelly.
Another heady highlight will come courtesy of Melbourne’s rhythmic and raucous seven-piece New Orleans-style brass band Horns of Leroy. They’ve played everywhere from the MCG to Splendour in the Grass; from Adelaide’s Hamer Hall to Dark Mofo. Born out of a love for New Orleans brass band sounds, the collective creates a contemporary big band sound to banging tracks by Peking Duck, Drake, Whitney Houston, and many more.
Guests can raise a glass to the new year with complimentary sparkling upon arrival, a curated list of exclusively Tasmanian wines, fresh summer cocktails, and sharing platters from some of the state’s premier providores. It’s going to be a New Year’s Eve of surprises yet to be revealed, as well as DJ Sexy Lucy spinning classics until the early hours.
