Ever considered having chips on your pizza? P&O Cruises’ flagship Pacific Explorer has put Pizza Viennese (or ‘the chip pizza’) on its menu at the traditional Neapolitan pizzeria 400 Gradi by award-winning Melbourne chef Johnny Di Francesco.

The speciality pizza is a firm favourite with children and big kids at heart because of the thick cut fries which top the wood-fired pizza along with fior di latte (mozzarella) and Italian sausage.

Surprisingly, Pizza Viennese is actually a traditional Neapolitan classic which has crowned the menus of Italian restaurants for more than 30 years. Now Pacific Explorer’s highly sought after restaurant 400 Gradi will offer the delicacy alongside some of its other popular dishes including Di Francesco’s award winning margherita pizza.

P&O Cruises Vice President Guest Experience – Hotel Operations Thomas Karlsson said the Pizza Viennese was added to the 400 Gradi menu because of the restaurant’s increasing popularity amongst families and their children.

“Pacific Explorer’s 400 Gradi restaurant is a fast casual dining outlet which debuted on the ship in July 2017 and since its launch has served up more than 60,000 pizzas including 12 different varieties,” Mr Karlsson said.

“Our brand’s popularity amongst families with children looking for a high quality and convenient lunch and dinner option made us want to delight them with this exciting new pizza.”

Following the success of 400 Gradi on Pacific Explorer, P&O recently revealed that its new Grand Class ship, Pacific Adventure, will also feature an exciting new 400 Gradi eatery when she joins the fleet in late 2020.

400 Gradi Founder and winner of the World’s Best Pizza award Johnny Di Francesco said the Pizza Viennese has been a popular choice in Naples for more than 30 years because it combined three family favourites in one.

“The Pizza Viennese is truly a match made in heaven because of its delectable, traditional flavours of fresh mozzarella and Italian sausage plus thick cut fries. It has been so popular with our restaurant guests we’re sure this classic will also be a hit with P&O pizza lovers,” Mr Di Francesco said.

Pacific Explorer cruises include a 3-night Comedy cruise departing Sydney on December 7, 2018. Fares start from $578.65* per person twin share.
