The Rees Hotel Queenstown won several top awards for their excellent service, food and sustainability in 2018 and has many exciting new initiatives in store for 2019. These include unique cycling packages, adding a new stop at The Rees’ dedicated wharf for Queenstown ferries and setting a new industry standard for hotel employees.

The Rees cycling packages
The Rees Hotel Queenstown is offering two new cycling packages. ‘Cycle The Rees’ is a unique airport transfer initiative and a perfect way to start your holiday at The Rees with an exciting and scenic outdoor activity! You will be collected from Queenstown airport and explore some of New Zealand’s spectacular scenery on a guided ride along the picturesque Frankton track to The Rees Hotel on one of their new hard-tail Merida mountain bikes or Avanti electric bikes. When you arrive at the hotel, your bags will already be in your room and you will be greeted by friendly staff and offered a glass of bubbles or beer.

Another great cycling experience offered by The Rees is the ‘Bike The Wineries’ package. Guests hire a bike from The Rees and are then transferred to Gibbston Valley to cycle between vineyards and back to the hotel.

Queenstown ferries are here
The Rees Hotel Queenstown now has its own stop at its dedicated wharf for Queenstown ferries running from 7.25am-10.25pm. Ferries will make it more convenient to visit the Hotel by increasing transport efficiency with the ferry going past every 30 minutes adding a new way to access Queenstown CBD and see Lake Wakatipu.

The Rees’ sets new benchmark for employee minimum wage
Building on its reputation as a leader in the hospitality industry, The Rees increased their minimum starting wage to $20 per hour on December 10 2018. CEO of The Rees, Mark Rose, believes it is a first for a hotel in New Zealand and he aims to encourage other employers to increase benefits for their team as well. The Rees is now paying well above the minimum wage of $13.20 for trainee employees and $16.50 for adults in New Zealand setting a new benchmark for the industry to follow.

The Rees uses cage free eggs
The Rees sources all its eggs exclusively from cage-free hens and has done so on its own initiative for several years showing its support for animal welfare and ethically sourced food. Increasingly wide support for cage-free eggs will favourably impact the welfare of hens internationally, and the quality of eggs available to consumers.
