The 2021 Outback Queensland Masters has just completed its 1,900 km journey across Outback Queensland, with players already planning for the 2022 tee-off, with the announcement of next year’s locations including the 2022 million-dollar hole-in-one in Birdsville, in what will be Queensland’s newest golf course on the edge of the Simpson Desert.

They call it ‘a golfing tournament of a different kind’, with amateur golfers, from happy hackers to a hole-in-one master, the 2021 Outback Queensland Masters travelled across six locations from Biloela to Charleville, Quilpie, Blackall and Hughenden, culminating in Longreach.

The 2021 Outback Queensland Masters Series Championship winners, and recipients of the coveted orange jackets were Laurie Binstead with 117 points from Hervey Bay Golf Club in Queensland, and from the ACT, Ann Backhouse with 119 points of the Murrumbidgee Golf Club.

Men’s winner of the Longreach event was Greg Wooler of the Sandy Gallop Golf Club in Ipswich. “I’ve played all six events in this year’s series, travelling the distance with friends. This win in Longreach has really capped off an amazing journey,” said Greg with a smile. “I’ll wear the orange jacket with pride.”

Barbara Slater of the Roma Golf Club was the women’s winner.  Barbara played in the inaugural Outback Queensland Masters in 2019, and returned this year, missing out on winning the event in Charleville by just one shot.  “The Outback Queensland Masters is a real highlight of my golfing career,” explained Barbara, one of the Outback Queensland Masters’ most passionate fans.

“The 2021 Outback Queensland Masters has been an amazing experience for the visitors, the clubs and the juniors.  I can honestly say we have been overwhelmed by the outstanding support of the local communities,” said Luke Bates, Queensland Manager, Golf Australia. “It’s the hospitality and genuine characters of Outback Queensland that makes the players really enjoy the challenge and mateship of this tournament.’’

“With the sell-out success of the 2021 Outback Queensland Masters, it’s with great pleasure we announce the locations of the 2022 event,” announced Luke Bates. “It is with great pleasure we announce the tee off for 2022 being Roma on the 18th of June, followed by Tambo, Barcaldine, Winton, Mount Isa and culminating to the million-dollar hole-in-one in Birdsville on the 22 – 24th July 2022.”

“The Outback Queensland Masters is presented by Golf Australia, with strategic partner Tourism & Events Queensland and Eagle Spirit Partner, the PGA of Australia with six local government authorities, including this final weekend supported by the Longreach Regional Council.”

“A real legacy of the event has been the free Junior Clinic for youth in Outback Queensland, conducted by PGA Pro, Darren Weatherall,” said Luke Bates. “We’ve had 150 young players join in with several juniors showing true potential for the future of golf.”
