In the meantime, Crystal Cruises’ Bahamas registered, Crystal Symphony has not ended her current cruise in Miami as scheduled, but did so in Bimini in the Bahamas.
The reason for the change is thought to be to avoid that an arrest warrant for the ship granted in Miami over unpaid fuel bills and secured by Singapore-based Peninsula Petroleum, as a result of the financial issues of Crystal parent, Genting Hong Kong.
Passengers aboard Symphony were told that the vessel would sail to Bimini and they would be transported back to the US mainland by high speed ferry.
Interestingly the Genting Group, Genting Hong Kong’s, parent company owns a marina and a resort in Bimini.
The US court ruling directed marshals to “arrest the defendant vessel, her boats, tackle, apparel
and furniture, engines and appurtenances, and to detain the same in your custody pending further order of the court”.
In the meantime, adding more complexity to the scenario, a court in Bermuda confirmed the appointment of Hong Kong and Bermuda-based Joint Provisional Liquidators (JPLs) of Genting HK, with JPL was in discussions with the company’s management team in order to urgently ascertain the financial condition of the Company and to identify potential resolutions.
