It takes dedication and passion to pave the way for a sustainable future, and the Allen family from Freedom Fast Cats in Keppel Bay have long held the Southern Great Barrier Reef as part of their heritage.
With a deep understanding of their immense role in the preservation and protection of the reef and its inhabitants, the popular cruise and transport service to Great Keppel Island, which lays just 30 minutes from the mainland of Yeppoon on the Capricorn Coast, has been successful in receiving their ECO Certification.
Ecotourism Australia’s world first ECO Certification program certifies tourism products with a primary focus on nature. It assures travellers that certified products are backed by a strong, well-managed commitment to sustainable practices and provides high quality nature-based tourism experiences.
Operating 364 days a year in the paradise we are fortunate to call home, the team from Freedom Fast Cats join our growing list of ECO Certified operators including Capricorn Caves, Pumpkin Island, Keppel Dive and Coral Inn Boutique Hotel.
Freedom Fast Cats Manager and local Master Reef Guide, Max Allen Jnr is proud to see his teams ongoing efforts recognised and delighted to welcome guests onboard their ecotourism product to experience the magic of our natural wonder.
“Our crew are all local to the area and passionate about reef preservation, incorporating a great deal of education during our tours that foster environmental and cultural understanding, together with an appreciation of the underwater world and the wonderful creatures that reside there,” Max said.
“We are always looking for ways to improve our footprint in any way, ensuring that our operations and guests leave the reef as it was when we arrived.”
Capricorn Enterprise CEO Mary Carroll congratulates Freedom Fast Cats for achieving the prestigious accreditation, and successfully navigating their way through the vigilant criteria required to obtain the sought-after status.
“We all have a responsibility to take care of our local environment with five of our operators now providing leadership on sustainability, adaption and education.”
“With ‘conscious consumerism’ on the rise, our clean and green destination is quickly gaining momentum.”
Freedom Fast Cat tours, ranging from Glass Bottom Boat Coral Viewing and Snorkelling to seasonal Whale Watching, have a high inclusion of both education and focus based information.
Many schools have participated in their education tours with students avidly learning about the reef and its inhabitants.
Ecotourism Australia is a not-for-profit organization representing more than 500 environmentally responsible operators, 1600 products and an ever-increasing number of ecotourism destinations.
