Discover the true magic of the festive season and indulge in an evening of escapism. The Warwick Castle Light Trail invites guests to experience the historic estate in a new light as the vast surrounding grounds are transformed with a multi-sensory experience including light installations and projections accompanied by spoken word and musical recordings.

For six weeks from 5th December to 17th January, wrap up warm and start the journey following a glowing path of lanterns in front of the iconic East Front. The new trail follows a romantic medieval theme, as guests are led through the grounds by a festive poem of hope. Multi-coloured lighting projections and installations bring the history of the castle to life after dark, with illuminations putting the spotlight firmly on Castle highlights, including the mighty trebuchet.

Follow the winding pathways and encounter interactive features including an immersive light tunnel, and woodland trail where glittering trees will be draped in light. The trail features notable surprises to provide fun for guests of all ages including opportunities to interact with the displays themselves by changing colours to suit. Guests are invited to capture memories of this special experience by taking photos at key ‘selfie spots’ featured along the trail.

The magical winter journey doesn’t stop there – guests can continue their experience with a session on the Ice Rink and a wander around the Winter Market, packed with seasonal gifts, food and drink. The Winter Market is free to visit and open to all – not just Castle ticket-holders. Open daily between 5th December 2020 – 17th January 2021 from 10am to 8pm, it’s the perfect opportunity to buy local this Christmas, in spectacular surroundings. Located along the iconic East Front of the Castle, independent stall-holders from Warwickshire and the surrounding area will be offering a wide range of seasonal best-sellers including craft beer, artisan gin, handcrafted jewellery, homewares, gifts and plants. The outdoor Winter Market provides a safety-conscious solution to Christmas shopping, with contactless payments, one-way systems and additional hygiene measures in place.

Operations Director Liam Bartlett says: “We’re so excited to reopen with such a great collection of festive fun. All of these new attractions have been organised with guest safety as priority – they’re outside in the open air, with timed slots and strict capacity limits to ensure that everyone can socially distance as well as temperature checks on arrival and plentiful sanitising stations. We’re really looking forward to welcoming back visitors from the local area in the first instance, and by keeping the Ice Rink, Light Trail and Winter Market open right through til 17th January, we hope that people from elsewhere will also be able to join us when their local restrictions allow.”

As Warwickshire is currently under Tier 3 restrictions (pending review on 16th December), the Castle recommends that all guests check the government regulations for travel applicable to their own area before visiting. Any guests unable to travel are able to make use of the Castle’s flexible booking policy, offering straightforward rebooking or refunds.

With so much safe and seasonal activity on offer at Warwick Castle until 17th January, there really is light at the end of the tunnel this year!
