Spread the love

With a vision to create a better everyday life for the many people, IKEA upholds a product design concept that emphasises the five core elements of form, function, quality, sustainability, and low price. To deepen our understanding of the quality standards that customers apply when choosing furniture pieces, IKEA conducted a survey in Hong Kong and Taiwan early this year to gauge customers’ interpretation of product quality, including their requirements for product quality, their level of acceptance for quality guarantee, and their opinion on the quality of IKEA’s furniture products. From the survey, we found that durability, material, and non-toxic are the top three concerns among Hong Kong consumers when it comes to assessing furniture quality.

The survey’s respondents consisted of 300 people, aged between 25 and 44 years, who have made purchases with IKEA in the past three years. 60% of those surveyed said that durability (e.g., whether the product will easily come unglued or be bent) is the most important criteria when considering product quality, while 50% deemed the material used (e.g., whether premium materials are used, or which type of wood used) and 40% said non-toxic was the most important. Meanwhile, 20% of respondents placed the highest emphasis on whether the product meets international standards for the presence and emissions of formaldehyde, and 16% said reduced use of heavy metals was their top concern. In a nutshell, a durable product made with the right materials and is non-toxic is one that makes Hong Kong consumers happy.

Striving for International Safety Standards to Provide Customers with Peace of Mind

Over the years, IKEA has never ceased to research about customers’ needs and improve product quality accordingly, so that every product that comes off our production line will meet the varying needs in the creation of a comfortable and safe home.

Before sale, IKEA’s products are put through multiple rigorous durability tests to ensure they comply with international standards and therefore will offer customers quality guarantee. In terms of material selection, the use of toxic heavy metals is completely banned at IKEA, and the levels of formaldehyde and heavy metal are lower than that required by international standards.

For example, FABLER BJÖRN, IKEA’s classic teddy bear soft toy, undergoes 154 rigorous tests, from material selection to production, on tearing, inflammability, colour retention, as well as the levels of heavy metals, formaldehyde, aromatic amines, and colourant to ensure that it meets international safety standards.

From soft toys to home products, IKEA’s emphasis on product safety and quality penetrates through the design and production stages; multiple tests are also conducted before product sale to ensure safety and durability so as to give customers peace of mind.

Harmful elements exist in our daily environment, and they are hidden risks to our health and safety in the home. Which is why selecting the right products can not only enhance quality of life, but it can also ensure the health and safety of family members.
