While Rex is threatening to sue QANTAS for predatory pricing and other behaviour on routes, Virigin Australia has upped the ante on the loyalty side of this business, in that from midnight today 2 August, 2021, Velocity Frequent Flyer members will earn double status credits on all eligible Virgin Australia bookings, described by Virgin Australia as the double status credit offer will give members the opportunity to accelerate their earning opportunities

Virgin Australia says that the generous offer follows a survey of the loyalty program’s 10 million members, which found they wanted more ways to earn status credits in order to retain their tier level, with a Virgin Australia Group spokesperson saying, “Our members asked for more ways to retain their membership tier and we’ve listened,” adding,

“We’re excited to provide this fantastic opportunity for members to accelerate their status credit balance when they book an eligible Virgin Australia airfare by midnight next Tuesday”, and “We’ve demonstrated our commitment to members many times throughout the pandemic and double status credits is another example that loyalty goes both ways.

The spokesperson also said that by giving members twice as many status credits on their next booking, they’ll have even more chances to retain and even increase their membership tier, knowing there’s more travel opportunities on the horizon, adding, “Velocity members have been the anchor of Virgin Australia for many years and we look forward to continuing to give our members even more reasons to fly with us.

Let’s wait and see how QANTAS and the others respond in this accelerating race to the bottom, with it appears all the airlines determined to put the others out of business, with in the long term the only loser being the customer.
