The Mediterranean will soon experience a significant increase in additional cruise capacity because of three ships set to sail from China in 2022 being redeployed to the Mediterranean.

Carnival Corporation’s Costa is moving two sister ships, the Costa Firenze and Costa Venezia originally planned to operate year-round in Asia serving the Chinese market to the Mediterranean.

They redeployed Firenze to Europe for 2021 and then for 2022, with Costa also announcing the Venezia will move the Eastern Mediterranean and sail round-trip cruises from Istanbul.

Royal Caribbean International has also announced that their new Wonder of the Seas will not sail in China in 2022 but will operate from Port Everglades in March before moving to Europe for a summer of Western Mediterranean cruises.

The 5,448-berth vessel in Europe will sail from Barcelona and Rome for summer, with Royal Caribbean yet to announce their winter 2022-2023 plans, but they expect her to reposition to either the Caribbean or the Middle East.
