Crown Sydney has been awarded Development of the Year 2021 at the Urban Taskforce Development Excellence Awards.

Opening in December 2020, Crown Sydney redefined luxury with the spectacular and pioneering design by Wilkinson Eyre dominating the Barangaroo precinct.

Taking inspiration from its incredible harbourfront location, the building has been spectacularly designed to hero coastal hues that are symbolic of the natural surroundings and create a synergy with the local environment.

Standing at 275m high, Crown Sydney has already become an iconic landmark of the harbour city, with its unique petal-like design overlaid with a façade comprising of over 8,000 glass panels, all individually cut and unique in their size which creates an ever-moving reflection of the surrounding harbour.

The Crown Sydney interiors were designed by globally renowned New York design house, Meyer Davis, with a focus on embracing the abundance of natural light and creating a warm and serene feel and relaxed luxury.

Crown Sydney Chief Operating Officer, Mark Holmes, said the award was an honour and testament to the vision to set a new standard in Australian resorts allowing Sydney to compete with the world’s best luxury hotels:

“It is an honour to be awarded the Urban Taskforce Development of the Year Award. Crown Sydney has helped to redefine the luxury resort experience in Australia. We are incredibly proud that Sydney has embraced us since opening and we have been a part of the revitalisation of this great part of the city. We look forward to international borders opening and welcoming guests to experience Crown Sydney.”

In awarding Crown Sydney the prestigious accolade, Urban Taskforce Chief Executive, Tom Forrest said the jury was unanimous in selecting it as the Development of the Year for 2021:

“Crown Resorts have built a new Sydney landmark. Its design is striking. It is an innovative example of mixed-use development which, in part, resulted in the restoration of the foreshore area as a fantastic public open space.

The Chair of the judging panel for the Urban Taskforce Development Excellence Awards is former NSW Government Architect, Chris Johnson. Mr Johnson led an esteemed group of independent judges in selecting this year’s winners.

“This tall, elegant building has added a major destination to the Barangaroo urban renewal area.  The development adds a waterfront public domain along with many quality restaurants, a high-end hotel and apartments that have brought a bustling activity to the precinct”, Mr Johnson said.
