The latest additions to The Broadway Collection have together received an unprecedented 71 nominations in advance of the 73rd annual Antoinette (Tony) Perry Awards ceremony, to be held at Radio City Music Hall on June 9, 2019. The Tony Awards are the most prestigious accolades in American theater, recognising theatre professionals for their impressive achievements on stage, and are presented by The Broadway League and the America Theatre Wing. Potential wins for The Broadway Collection shows include Best Musical, Best Leading Actress, Best Leading Actor, Best Revival, and Best Direction, among others.

A refreshingly modern twist on a classic tale and a great choice for millennial travellers, Hadestown has been nominated for a grand total of 14 Tony Awards, including Best Musical. Members of the cast have been nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role and Best Performance by both an Actress and Actor in a Featured Role. On the creative side, the musical has been nominated for Best Book, Best Original Score, Best Direction, Best Choreography, Best Orchestrations, Best Scenic Design, Best Costume Design, Best Sound Design, and Best Lighting Design.

Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of The Temptations is another front-runner for the 2019 Tony Awards. Nominated for 12 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, the show’s story of brotherhood is just the ticket for audiences of all ages. The talented cast has also been recognised, garnering nominations for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role and Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role. The creative team has been nominated for Best Book, Best Direction, Best Choreography, Best Orchestrations, Best Scenic Design, Best Costume Design, Best Sound Design and Best Lighting Design.

To Kill a Mockingbird, based on Harper Lee’s prize-winning classic novel, became a hit with multicultural audiences upon opening in December 2018. The play is up for nine Tony Awards, including Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, Best Original Score, Best Direction, Best Performance by both an Actress and Actor in a Featured Role, and Best Scenic design, among others.

Tootsie, Beetlejuice and The Prom have received 10, eight and seven nominations, respectively. Based on the hit comedy film, Tootsie has been nominated for Best Musical, Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, Best Direction, and Best Performance by both an Actress and Actor in a Featured Role, among others. Beetlejuice, based on the Tim Burton movie of the same name, is up for awards, including Best Musical, Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, Best Book, and Best Original Score. The Prom, the heartwarming comedy that has been inspiring audiences since opening in November 2018, has received nominations for Best Musical, Best Performance by and Actor and Actress in a Leading Role, Best Original Score, Best Book, and Best Direction.

Contending for the Best Revival of a Musical Award is Kiss Me, Kate, which has received four total nominations. Members of the cast have been nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role. The creative team has received nominations for Best Choreography and Best Orchestrations.

Rounding out the Broadway Collection nominees are King Kong, The Cher Show and Be More Chill. A massive new addition to the stage, King Kong has received nominations for Best Scenic Design, Best Sound Design and Best Lighting Design, while The Cher Show has received nominations for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role, Best Costume Design and Best Lighting Design. Be More Chill, the sensational social media hit, has been nominated for Best Original Score.
