It’s apparent that a good old fashion road trip is at the top of many Aussie agendas, in fact, new research from Budget Australia revealed that almost half of Australians (49%) who plan to travel domestically this year are likely to rent a car as part of their trip. With demand already increasing, Budget Australia is advising people to book early.

Where are the most popular destinations for Aussies this year?

According to Budget Australia, Australians are most likely to want to travel within their own state, or a neighbouring state, given the unpredictability of COVID-19. NSW (38%), QLD (36%) and VIC (34%) look to be the most popular holiday destinations.
When looking at specific locations, Booking.com found these Aussie destinations to be the top five most searched by Australian users:
Gold Coast
Cairns
Port Douglas
Jindabyne
Sydney
